Tetris Blitz gets an update as Tetris turns 30!

Stack ’em high like it’s 1984 in the newly updated Tetris Blitz, featuring retro-style gaming.

Born in Moscow, Tetris was introduced to the world by Russian scientist, Alexey Pajitnov.

In a few short years, this fledgling game had left Eastern Europe, spread through North America and into Japan where it started to sell in its millions.

Fast-forward three decades and Tetris shows no sign of leaving the gaming arena.

The latest version, Tetris Blitz, still gives gamers the same addictive gameplay that it always has – albeit in a glossier format.

The aim of the game – for those living under a rock for the past three decades – is to rearrange falling blocks, called Tetriminos, in the stack below by rotating them into place.

If piled correctly with no gaps, entire rows will be wiped out scoring you massive points.

This latest edition of Tetris Blitz has always offered a tournament feature, but it’s now retro-themed.

The iconic background music (we bet you’re humming it now) from the 80s is back, the power-ups now have a retro finish to them, and new anniversary avatars have been added.

And to top it off, there’s also a glorious birthday cake finisher. Woohoo!

New retro tournaments will be added throughout the year to help keep the nostalgia levels high.

Tetris Blitz for Lumia is free to download from the Windows Phone Store.

Happy 30th birthday Tetris! – #Tetris30
