Design by Community – the voting has closed

5. Week-round-upLONDON, England – Well folks, the first part of the Design by Community project has now finished. Over the last seven weeks we’ve had 100s of comments, bags of suggestions for names and over 74,000 votes (74,268 to be precise). We’ve said it before, but we never expected the Design by Community project to spark so much debate or generate so many votes. To say we’re pleased with the results is something of an understatement. So where next? Read on after the jump to find out.

We’ve prepared a brief now including all the voting results and related comments collected over the last seven weeks. This has been passed to the Nokia Design team who are now beavering away behind the scenes, preparing concept sketches. We expect to have the initial sketches back in a few weeks at which point we’ll be presenting back to you so you can vote for your favourite. Once a winner has been chosen, it will be back to the Nokia Design team to turn those concept sketches into a fully rendered device. After that, who knows.

In the meantime, we still have the question of the name to resolve. Rhi is right now harvesting the names suggestions already submitted after which we’ll be presenting a short list for you to vote on. We’re hoping to get this live before the end of the week.

Now it just leaves us to say a whopping thank you. Thanks for taking the time to vote, leave your comments and above all, being passionate about this project. It mirrors our passion for it and we can’t wait to see this concept come to (virtual) life.

If you have any thoughts on how we should do any of the above (present the concepts for voting, shortlisting the names) then do let us know in the comments below.
