MyDailyApp – Woofeed, Qik Video and Translating Parrot

woofeed_mydailyappGLOBAL – We’re all keeping a beady eye on the news this week in the UK waiting with baited breath to find out who’ll be running the country for the next few years. With this in mind our this week’s selection box from the folks over at MyDailyApp all have a news angle.

Woofeed keeps you in the loop on all the latest news, Qik Video lets you become a citizen journalist and Translating Parrot enables you to read the news in myriad languages. Join us after the jump for all the breaking news and hold that front page.

Topping the headlines from the Ovi Store this week we have Woofeed; an app to bring you the news that you want to read. Instead of scanning news sites, blogs and RSS feeds hunting for interesting and useful news stories just load Woofeed and it does all the hunting for you.

Just define the keywords you wish to follow and wait for all the news to come to you on your Nokia S60 5th Edition device or check it out on the Woofeed.com website. Woofeed also adds a social networking trick in allowing you to invite other people to view your stream. You can also forward a news story or blog feed to a friend and get the discussion started.

Currently Woofeed scans some 1,200 news sources from the U.S, France, Israel, India and the Phillippines and there’s much more coming according to the developers.

The beta version of Woofeed is available for free in Ovi Store and is compatible with Nokia S60 5th Edition touchscreen devices.

Next up on the news roster we have Qik Video Camera Premium. Some of you may already use the Qik Video Camera Lite but the Premium version offers downloading videos to a PC, better quality nHD video format and it has no limits on the amount of storage that you can use for videos.

Both Premuim and Lite versions let you steam video live from your Nokia S60 device straight to your friends, including posts to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and other social networks. Spot something that you’d like to share? Just point and shoot for live video footage.

Qik Video Camera Premium is usually priced at $4.99 (USD) but it’s on a special sale for £1.00 for a limited time so get in there, erm, Qik. Here’s loveable video for a taster of what you could be creating.

Bringing our bulletin to a close we have Translating Parrot. Being connected with the world through your smartphone is all well and good but a stumbling block can be that you have no idea what your reading as it’s not in your native language. Help is at hand in the form of Translating Parrot.  This brainy bird asks you for a short string of text (100 characters max) and then translates it to your chosen language almost instantly. Handy if you’re in a foreign country and have no idea where to go or what anyone is saying.

Currently the multinational chick can speak a full dozen languages; English, Spanish, French, Italian, Hindi, Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Indonesian, and Haitian-Creole.

Translating Parrot is available globally and is free to download from the Ovi Store.
