GLOBAL – Nokia has a well-stocked shed of tactile devices. We’ve got the Nokia N8 coming up, and it joins the likes of the Nokia X6, Nokia X3 and the Nokia N97, to name but a few. Touchscreens lend themselves to a batch of finger friendly apps, but what are they? Here’s a trio of touching apps, from the folks over at OviDailyApp, to get you started.
First, we have an app that was created to be finger-friendly: Touchnote. It’s an app that’s been around for a while but has been updated recently. The app is now available specifically for use with Nokia Symbian OS, S60 5.0 (i.e., the touch-enabled) devices. For those who are not familiar with Touchnote, this app makes it possible for you to take pictures from your Nokia mobile device and turn them into printed photo cards that can be sent via good-old postal mail to family and friends around the world. Best of all, you can share the love in just three easy steps.
– Step 1: Take a picture. Once you select the picture you want to use in your Touchnote, you can adjust the area of the image that will be displayed in the printed card, including cropping or zooming in on a specific portion of the picture.
– Step 2: Add your personal message.
– Step 3: Send it. With the new version, you can send to multiple recipients, everyone needs to see that picture of your dog’s birthday, don’t they? The first card you create with Touchnote is free. After that, you will need to buy additional credits to send more cards. The new version of Touchnote now supports in-app payments.
That’s it. You’re done. Also new in this version of Touchnote is additional language support. The new Symbian OS, S60 5.0 version of the app supports English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese (both Simplified and Traditional), and Taiwanese language support is extensible. Further, according to Touchnote, if you need a different language from the ones currently available, translations in to other languages can be provided with a week’s notice. Next up we have Zuma. A game created form the uber-imaginative, mad-cap brains of the folks over at PopCap, Zuma is right up there with the most addictive games available on Ovi Store. Here’s a quick synopsis: a grinning, Aztec-styled frog, sculpted in stone, his (or her?) mouth shooting colored balls at a steadily moving train of similarly coloured balls headed down a track – the Spiral of Doom – that leads to the hideously gaping skull of the insatiable Sun God. Madness we hear you say, it makes for a cracking game, though.
The object of the game is simply to stop that string of balls from reaching the Sun God. Blast the same coloured balls to save your beloved God. If you clear all the balls before they reach the Sun God, you get to move on to a more difficult level. Otherwise, you lose a life and have to retry the current level. Be warned, you will play this game for hours on end. It’s available now over on Ovi Store for S60 5th edition touchscreen-enabled devices.
Third, we have Write in the Sand. This fun little app from Finnish-based Pico Brothers lets you write in the sand – virtual sand, that is – with any of four drawing lines, arranged by thickness. If you’ve written something less-than-perfect, you can also erase your work, stroke by stroke. Or you can select The Wave, which utterly erases your scribbling in the digital tide. Pointless? Yes. Fun? Definitely. Think of your phone as the beach and you’re armed with four different-sized drawing straws, ranging from a thin twig to a heavy semi-log, and you will get the idea.
