videomaker award

GLOBAL – The CTIA Wireless show is on this week and we’re delighted to find that the Nokia 808 PureView has already been recognised with a ‘Best in Show’ award from Videomaker magazine. We’ve talked a lot about how the 808 PureView produces great still images, but less about its video capabilities.

Let’s correct that now with a few bullet point reminders:

  • Full HD 1080p video recording at 30fps;
  • Silent, smooth and lossless zoom up to 4X;
  • Dolby Rich Recording for undistorted sound quality up to 140dB.

We really can’t wait to see more from the latest, greatest camera phone.

Also in the news this week is a group test of mobile displays from DisplayMate. With summer fast approaching, the readability of your smartphone’s screen under direct sunlight is once again a topical issue.

DisplayMate tested the ClearBlack Display on the Nokia Lumia 900 against the latest and greatest from all of our competitors. The result?

…the top performing device for display viewability under Bright Ambient Lighting is the Nokia Lumia 900. This results from a combination of its high screen Brightness and low screen Reflectance, which Nokia calls ClearBlack technology.

This recognition is especially important to Nokia: ClearBlack Display has come as standard on nearly all of our leading smartphones since the start of 2011.

(Thanks to My Nokia Blog for the tip).

It’s been a great year for industry recognition in the form of awards so far. The Nokia Lumia 900 scooped several gongs at CES; there were awards for the Nokia C3-00 and the Nokia 808 PureView at MWC; another award for PureView technology from TIPA and a Yellow Pencil design award from D&AD for the Nokia N9.

Any others you’ve noticed that we missed?
