App Report: City Lens, exclusive Lumia apps, Amazing Weather

It’s been a busy week for the coding warriors, the guys and girls who make your Nokia apps and who allow you to spend so long browsing the Marketplace and the Store. I, for one, have spent longer in the Marketplace over the last couple of days than is healthy – all in the name of Nokia Connects research, of course.

I can speak from personal experience on this one having downloaded the Beta version of Nokia City Lens just the other night. It does exactly what it sets out to do, is accurate and informative. If you didn’t know, it’s an augmented reality-type app that can help you find the nearest outlets in a variety of categories such as food, hotels and shopping, but also sights and transport links, so if you’re away from home you can find your way to the best bits. Here’s the video explaining it, and to get the Beta Labs City Lens page.

A slew of new apps was announced this week exclusively available on Nokia Lumia phones. Among the titles are ESPN, Angry Birds Space (bonus news – Angry Birds hit 1 BILLION downloads this week) and Groupon. There’s also news of EA bringing some of their titles across to Windows Phone. To harp on a little bit more about Angry Birds (hey, how can you argue with 1 billion downloads?) there was this little nugget – ‘Rovio is building a dedicated design and development team to create games for Nokia Lumia smartphones’. Pretty sweet.

A review now of the changes that have been made to the Amazing Weather app with the release of v3.1. Ali Al-Qudsi talks us through it, including the ‘beautiful themes’ and ‘distinct live tiles’

Which prompted me to think – is this the best weather app available for your Nokia (Lumia or otherwise)? What other weather apps do you use? For inspiration, this Nokiapp Showdown might help…
