Voddler on Lumia

“Watching movies just got social again, also on your mobile! Our app combines the inherent communication strength of a mobile device with online video’s flexibility to let you and your friends decide when and where to watch,” says Marcus Bäcklund, CEO of Voddler.

Video-on-demand service Voddler launched its eagerly awaited app for Nokia Lumia smartphones yesterday. As well as the key ‘streaming movies’ functionality, the social element of watching movies is an important part of the experience offered by the app: Voddler Lumia Movie Night, exclusively available for Nokia Lumia customers, lets friends share movie moments.

Also exclusive to Nokia Lumia owners, the app comes with four months of Voddler Plus membership worth €7.90/month, which gives several benefits over the regular Voddler service. It also comes with two ‘Lumia tickets’ so you can easily create your first Voddler Lumia Movie Night.

This feature lets friends blend physical and online viewing by scheduling joint movie nights, using the mobile device not just for watching movies but also for scheduling, coordinating, chatting, reviewing and more.

The Voddler Lumia app is initially available in the countries where the service is currently active: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Spain. More European markets are on the road map for later in 2012.

When we talked to Bäcklund at MWC in March, he told us that the social experience is baked into the solution:

“It’s hard to find a person who never watches a movie but what we do is combine that with a device agnostic solution, and a sense of social networking that is in our DNA.”

My Voddler

This is a very new and novel service, offering an experience we haven’t seen on Nokia Lumia smartphones before. Who will you be inviting to your first mobile movie?
