With a camera in everyone’s pockets, the smartphone has become the go-to device for snapping the world, and indeed ourselves. For those of us who want flawless ‘selfies’ every time, the Nokia Glam Me app is on hand to assist.

A selfie is the art of taking a photo of yourself using your own camera, usually at arms length in order to get a decent amount of yourself in the frame.
Nokia Glam Me uses the front camera on your Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphone so there’s no need to guess when you’re in shot.
With the app launched, hold your phone in front of you and adjust the phone, or yourself, so that you’re in a good position. It’s probably a good idea to find a well-lit area, too.
When you feel that the time is right to take the photo, tap the screen. After a few seconds of processing, your captured photo will appear in the enhanced section of the app, with some basic enhancements already added.
To enhance your photo further, press the edit option at the bottom of the screen. If you’re not sure which button that is, pull up the bottom menu and you’ll see the text “edit”.
The types of enhancements available are eyes, soften, toning, and teeth. Teeth is a great one for making your teeth whiter, so make sure you smile widely when you take your photo. You don’t need to actually select your teeth, the app cleverly knows where they are and adjusts automatically.
If you want, you can make your eyes slightly larger using the eyes option. Research suggests that men find women with larger eyes more attractive than those who don’t and using the sliding scale bar will adjust your eye size accordingly.
Soften and toning smooth out any wrinkles you may have and generally removes any blemishes you want to hide.
At any point during your ‘improvements’, you can compare what your photo looked like before and after the alterations. The compare option at the bottom throws up a dividing line with the raw image on the left, and the enhanced you on the right. This line can also be moved just by dragging it across the screen.
When you’re happy with your new photo, you can start to add special effects to it, and you do this by leaving the edit option and sliding the screen across to the next panel.
Special effects adds pre-programmed filters to your photo, such as: magazine, LOMO, sketch, mint, watercolour, B&W, and raindrop to name only a few.
The magazine effect overlays a fake magazine on top of your image in the style of a Lumia magazine. Another great effect is raindrop. It gives the appearance that you’re looking through a window, recently doused in rain.
At any point you can save the image or share it using the usual suspects, like Facebook, Twitter, email and others for all to see.
Nokia Glam Me can be downloaded from Windows Phone Store and runs on Nokia Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8, such as the Nokia Lumia 820, Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 620.
