Mobile phone videos have come a very long way since the days when you got a grainy, few seconds of footage the size of a postage stamp. One smartphone that’s really taken pocket-sized cinematography to the next level is the Nokia Lumia 920. With its on-board 1080p full-HD video camera, complete with a video light, zoom, optical image stabilization and five different white balance modes, it has shown that you really can make amazing mobile movies. To see just how amazing,  check out the best videos ever made on a Lumia 920. And remember, for the full, glorious effect, crank them up to 1080 HD on YouTube.

Red Earth Hip Hop

First up, the winner of the Nokia Music Short Film competition, Jason van Genderen’s Red Earth Hip Hop. Premiered at the Sundance London Film & Music Festival to critical acclaim, this stunning short film showed how hip-hop is helping Australia’s aboriginal people deal with an ever-changing world. It’s filmed entirely on a Nokia Lumia 920.

Big air meets big snow

Next another competition winner. This time Jack Tompkin’s movie, which scooped the Nokia x Burton comp first prize. His brief was to “Find the heart beyond the big air and the steep slopes” at the US Snowboarding Championships and as you can see from his two and a half minute documentary he does that in style. Using just a Nokia Lumia 920, a magnetic fisheye, wide angle and macro lenses he gives you an incredible sense of the buzz of competition and the people involved.

The cinematic seas

Our third video shows that the Nokia Lumia 920 isn’t just fantastic for documentary style shoots. Created by Christopher Westerholm on the Nokia Lumia 920. The incredible footage was taken in a national park in Sweden with the aim of showing that the Nokia Lumia 920 was capable of taking “cinemastyle” video. To see if Christopher pulled it off, be sure to view this on 1080 HD.

Run Lumia run

One thing that Nokia Lumia 920 is famous for is its unique Optical Image Stabilization technology. This makes it perfect for capturing all the action, and you don’t get much more action packed than free running or Parkour.  This video featuring freerunning World Champion Ryan Doyle and his Parkour buddy Will Sutton will take your breath away in more ways than one.

Rolling with the rookies

The last of the fab five is a video shot by Helsinki based cinematographer, Lee Righini. If you ever wanted to see how good a video camera the Nokia Lumia 920 has, he’s your man. The talented movie magician was asked to filmed the European Burton Open Snowboarding Championships entirely on a Nokia Lumia 920. The end result was very, very cool, both literally and metaphorically.

We think these are the five best short films ever taken on a Nokia Lumia 920. If you can think of any others that should be considered for the mobile movie making hall of fame, please let us know in the comments below.
