Game of Thrones fan dressed up

Million of fans will be suffering withdrawal symptoms over the next few weeks as the Game of Thrones season three finale is broadcast around the world.

This epic HBO production of power, war, family strife and mythical creatures is based on George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice fantasy novels and has been thrilling global audiences since it first popped onto our TV screens in 2011.

Now, devotees of the show will have to wait at least a year before they can find out what happens next. Until then, you can always satisfy your cravings by trying out these Game of Thrones apps for your Nokia Lumia. They’re unofficial, made for fans, by the fans, and they’re all the better for it.

Game of Thrones DB, £0.79p

GoT DB

If you want to transform your Lumia into a Game of Thrones smartphone, this is the best place to start.

The exhaustive Game of Thrones Database has everything from the latest news, social media, ringtones and screen wallpapers.

I particularly liked the interactive maps, which were extremely helpful, as even the most avid fan will tell you that staying on top of all plot twists require maximum concentration.

Game of Thrones Trivia (FREE)

GoT Trivia

As mentioned above, the multi-stranded storylines and huge cast of characters can make Game of Thrones rather challenging to follow. As a fan of the show, I mean that as a compliment!

If you really want to know how well you’ve been paying attention, then try this quiz.

Answer 30 questions and see how you fare in the global leader boards, or play with a friend to take turns answering questions under time limits.

Sample question: With whom did Robb Stark swear an oath in order to cross the bridge?

Game of Thrones Fan App (free)

GoT Fan App

This app is a nice companion to the TV series. It has a handy episode guide and brings together Twitter feeds and YouTube videos.

It has also nicely packaged together a series of links from the official HBO website Making Game of Thrones to present a behind-the-scenes diary of the production.

Likewise, the YouTube section is a feed of the official Game of Thrones channel. It’s great to have them all in one place, and makes the archive easily accessible too.

Game of Thrones – Just A Fan (£0.79p)

GoT Just A Fan

This app shares many of the same features seen elsewhere, such as the latest news, gossip, videos and social media aggregation.

However, one feature that makes it stand out is that you can stream the haunting Game of Thrones soundtrack within the app. Chose a track, perhaps one from your favourite scene and listen to it on your Lumia. Great stuff.

Game of Thrones, Nokia Music (£7.99p)

Game of Thrones Soundtrack

Talking of the excellent music, the Game of Thrones Soundtrack by German composer, Ramin Djawadi, is available to buy from Nokia Music

Also worth investigating are remixed, electronic or hip-hop versions of the theme tune. I don’t understand a word they’re saying but my favourite is this one by Shango.

You can search and download all these Game of Thrones-related songs from your Nokia Lumia smartphone by opening the Nokia Music app and searching for ‘Game of Thrones’ in the Store.
