The new Nokia 207 and Nokia 208 are designed to offer speedy Internet access in a versatile package. They bring high quality construction, a full set of contemporary phone features and a modern design to a classic ‘candybar’ phone.

So who are they for? For many, it will be their first phone with 3G internet, social networks and multimedia. For others, it’s an adaptable workhorse that can act as a second phone when it makes sense to leave your smartphone at home.

The Nokia 207 and Nokia 208 are very closely related. The differences between them are that the Nokia 208 has a camera with smart features like voice-guided self-portrait, sequential shot and panorama mode, and comes in dual SIM and single SIM flavours, while the Nokia 207 is single SIM without a camera, for people who work in places that ban camera phones on security grounds.

Full-featured

These are affordable devices, but they aren’t basic. Full 3.5G HSPA Internet support offers fast access to online services, including the data-compressing Nokia Xpress Browser and video streaming from YouTube. Popular social networks and chat services like Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp** are pre-installed, while thousands of other apps are available from the Nokia Store.

Uniquely at this price point, Mail for Exchange is fully supported so that your calendar and contacts are in sync, which means the phones are ready for work, as well as social activities. The phone also offers Internet connection sharing, allowing you to use it as a USB modem alongside a laptop. When you’re out and without home broadband or WiFi, this is a surefire way to get back online, fast.

For those considering one of these phones as a secondary device, a key new feature is that it fits a micro SIM card rather than the full-sized versions. So it’s easy to pop the SIM card out of your smartphone and fit it into the Nokia 207 or Nokia 208.

Finally, the new Transfer app, for importing contact details from other phones, including Windows Phone 8 and most of the Android smartphones, is available from Nokia Store.

Design matters

The Nokia 207 and Nokia 208 are designed to fit perfectly alongside other recent Nokia phones. They are inherently coloured, which means the colour goes all the way through the case. That way, if your phone is scratched or chipped, it will still look smart since it’s the same colour underneath as on the surface.

There are no gaps between the keys, so it is splash-proof and your keys can’t get gunked-up over use or let in spilled liquids.

The overall shape is a two-piece ‘cup’-style design, akin to the Nokia Lumia 520, where a coloured shell covers the back and up the sides of the phone. This shell can be removed and replaced with a different colour, to refresh its appearance whenever you please.

And lastly, no feature phone product launch post would be complete without mention of the great battery life these phones pack. The single SIM variant offers more than a month’s standby time, while the available talk time is up to 12 hours on a 2G connection.

All three phones, in red, cyan, white and black, will start shipping in quarter three. Before local taxes and operator subsidies, they will each cost around USD 68.
