Long gone are the days of simply taking a photo and that being the end of capturing a moment. Now, with Nokia Pro Camera, you can capture more, different, unseen moments using the zoom and reframing feature.

Nokia Pro Camera was first introduced on the Nokia Lumia 1020, but is now available on the Lumia 925, Lumia 920 and Lumia 928 (after you’ve received the Lumia Amber update).

Reframing

Framing your photo in a nice way can make a big difference between a good and a bad photo. Just keeping the horizon straight makes your photos look much more professional. But in some situations you just don’t have time to position everything perfectly. But don’t worry, with Nokia Pro Camera you can re-frame your photos after you’ve taken them.

Imagine you’re on a boat trip and you’ve managed to capture a beautiful photo of your friend with a sunset in the backdrop. But after you’ve taken the picture you notice that because of all the waves you were not holding the camera straight, and the horizon is very tilted. You also wish that you had changed the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9, which is great for a landscape situation like this.

Reframing02

With Nokia Pro Camera, you can change and fix all of these and more after you’ve taken the photo. Just open your photo in Pro Camera, and click the reframe button.

Use two fingers to rotate the image until the horizon is straight. Click the aspect-ratio toggle, until you get the aspect ratio you like – you can choose between 16:9, 3:2, 4:3, or 1:1. When you press save, your photo is saved, and you can view it in the camera roll. Nokia Pro Camera will also keep your original photo intact in the background, so that if you change your mind, you can go back into the reframing tools, and restore your image to the original.

How about zooming then? Read on …

Zooming on Lumia 1020

When it comes to zooming, there is a slight difference between the Lumia 1020 and the 92x version.

Launch Nokia Pro Camera application and focus on your subject and zoom in. Once you’ve pressed the camera shutter key, you will have captured a spectacular photo, I’m sure.

However, if you’re not happy with the positioning of your photo, you can actually zoom back out of that image after you’ve taken it and reframe your shot.

Zooming out is possible thanks to the dual capture feature on your Lumia 1020 enabled by its 41-megapixel sensor and Nokia’s oversampling technology.

When you press the camera shutter key, the Nokia Pro camera captures two spectacular images: one full resolution photo of the wider scene (the original) and your zoomed in version with 5MP resolution. To access the reframing tools to zoom in and out, just tap the photo thumbnail at the top left of the screen.

Zooming

Zooming on Lumia 92x

The zoom on the Lumia 92x-models is more conventional, and not lossless like on the Lumia 1020. This means that only one full resolution image is stored, and you cannot zoom out after you’ve taken the image.

But the rest of the reframing features works the same way as on the Lumia 1020.  Just tap the photo thumbnail at the top left of the screen to access the reframing tools to rotate and change the aspect ratio of the photo.

Try it! For example, take a photo of a busy street, or a market, and zoom in after you’ve taken the shot.  Also on your Lumia 1020, zoom in before taking a shot and then go to reframing tools to see what else you captured. Impressive – right?

Try zooming and reframing today and let us know how it goes.
