The latest Lumia software upgrade brought with it a whole host of new features and benefits. However, Conversations readers had questions around the update. We’ve answered as many as possible.

@Shannon Pitts

Q. Will the Lumia 928 get the black update?

A. While many Lumias have already benefitted, the Nokia Black Update continues to roll out. Nearly all will have it by the end of January. Bear in mind that, for some models and regions, the timing of the update will be dependent on the localised network carrier.

Your Nokia Lumia will automatically check for updates every week, and will notify you if Black is ready for your phone. Alternatively, go to Settings > Phone update and manually check. If it is available, you’ll be able to download and install it straight from that screen.

Q. Nokia Beamer is not available for my Lumia 920 with “Black update” installed.

Q. Today I updated my Nokia Lumia 820. Why can’t I download Nokia Beamer?

A: An update rolled out on 16 January enabling Nokia Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 phones to download and install Nokia Beamer. Both Nokia Beamer and Nokia ReFocus will only run on Lumia phones with at least 1GB of RAM. Download both using the QR codes below.

Q: Will the Lumia 920 be getting DNG / RAW support?

A: As regular contributor, @Hethler De Chavez, rightly pointed out: “support only covers Lumia 1020 and 1520 with 41-megapixel and 20-megapixel PureView camera sensors respectively”. For those with Nokia Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1520 phones, follow this link to download DNG color profiles for Adobe Lightroom.

Q. Does Black include GDR3 (General Distribution Release 3)?

A: Yes.

Q. How can I make [app] folders?

A: To create and add folders to your Start Screen, you’ll need to download App Folder. Visit the Windows Phone app store or scan the QR code below.

Once installed and open, you’ll see a big + button at the bottom of the screen. Tap that to create your first folder. Give your folder a relevant name – Games, Favourites, Fitness, Settings – then tap the tick at the bottom of the screen.

To add apps or settings to the folder you’ve just created, just select the box next to your desired app (swipe to the Settings menu to add things like Bluetooth, Flight Mode and Wi-Fi). Select as many as you want and, when you’re done, tap the tick button at the bottom. Then click the pin icon to add your new folder to your Start Screen. Job done!

Q. Is there any trick to enable Nokia Glance? I can’t find any entries in the settings?!

A: After the Black Update has installed, open Settings, scroll down the System list and tap Glance. Here you can set your Glance Screen to peek, interval or always on modes. You can also set your Night Mode to one of three colours.

Under the drop-down menu at the top, Glance is automatically set to ‘Off’. You can choose Peek for display when you hand is held over the phone (this option used the proximity sensor), Interval (timed) for a fifteen minute display of the Glance screen after the phone locks or Always on.

Nokia Glance is not available for Nokia Lumia 520, 521, 525, 526 and 625.

@Yash

Q. Will this update delete all my installed apps?

A: No.

Q. Is there any way [in HERE Drive] to set the location of your car after you park (not having used Drive to get to an obvious spot but parking somewhere unfamiliar)?

A: From @Ian Delaney Yes! Open HERE Maps and set your current location as a favourite (or even a Live Tile). I do that all the time, when I go to a hotel, for example.

Q. Why do I have to download the apps separately?

A: So you have the choice. It also makes future updates to those apps simpler.
