Lumia 830: Twisting Style at London Fashion Week

With the help of the new Lumia 830 smartphone, Microsoft has partnered with award-winning design label Fyodor Golan to challenge the way people perceive catwalk shows at London Fashion Week, Sept. 12-16.

The affordable flagship Lumia 830, with its 10-megapixel PureView camera and Optical Image Stabilization, captured a live feed of Fyodor Golan’s latest collection, blending the garments’ modern shapes, colors and materials inspired by today’s digital culture.

“The Lumia 830’s design aesthetic and stunning camera technology was the perfect partner for capturing the collection in a truly revolutionary way,” said Fyodor Podgorny and Golan Frydman, Fashion Fringe winners and the designers behind Fyodor Golan.

Describing their ethos as “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” the designers are inspired by painting and are known for exploring contrasts, fusing intricate hand-detailing with three-dimensional embroidery in their work.

“Our spring and summer 2015 season collection is an expression of modernity and youthful romance in the digital age,” they added. “We wanted to translate fast-paced visual language onto ready-to-wear items that translate that vision and showcase vividness and energy.”

Lumia Smart Skirt

The London Fashion Week collaboration isn’t Microsoft’s first foray into the world of fashion. It follows a unique effort in February, again with Fyodor Golan, to create the world’s first smart skirt made up of 80 Lumia smartphones, each sporting a high-res PureView camera and six-inch screen.Read about that project here.

While the smart skirt challenged the future of fashion products, the current project re-assesses the concepts of the fashion show and catwalk, the designers added.

London-based research and design studio Kin created the bespoke technology for Fyodor Golan’s catwalk show for London Fashion Week 2014.

“Partnering with Microsoft and Fyodor Golan has meant that we have a great opportunity to challenge and push the boundaries of where fashion meets technology,” said Matt Wade from Kin.

“Using the Lumia 830 and our Windows app with cutting edge CGI technology, we were able to twist reality and really explore the future of the catwalk. It is a really exciting time.”
