We earlier outlined nine reasons why you should use IE9 for business. Now, Groupon provides 100,000 more reasons to use IE9.
Groupon features daily deals on the best stuff to do, see, eat, and buy in thousands of cities worldwide. Since inventing the local daily deal model in November 2008, they’ve helped millions of customers explore their cities at a huge discount. They built a pinned site experience and they are offering $5 in reward for the first 100,000 to try it out. Here is Sumir Meghani of Groupon talking about how they built it:
Go to Groupon using IE9. Choose your city. Pin it to your taskbar.
Right-click to see the jump list. It shows the daily deals for the city you selected. In Seattle, we tried the Cow Chip Cookies for $10.
The banner at the top means that you’re one of the first 100,000 people to get some free Groupon Bucks.
Choose who you want to buy from locally. Complete your purchase and get $5 Groupon bucks for your next purchase. And that’s it! The first 100,000 people that purchase will get their Groupon Bucks. You can find all the offer details here.
Other sites like Slacker, Hulu, and eBay are also taking advantage of pinned sites to deliver better experiences and providing offers.
You can learn about new offers through www.beautyoftheweb.com or by following us on Twitter. Learn more about how developers are creating Pinned Site experiences in less than a day and find demos and code samples here.
Yeah, the only problem is, it won't work with Windows XP. And with the Windows Vista debacle, nobody upgraded.
So businesses and individuals who (were smart and) didn't upgrade, won't be able to get IE9.
