Today we’re excited to “unbox” a new experience on the web – an HTML5 version of the popular Cut the Rope game with 25 levels is now available online for free. With the power of HTML5, IE9 and Windows, experiences that were once limited to applications are now coming to life across the web. You can play Cut the Rope at www.cuttherope.ie.
Created by ZeptoLab, the concept behind the game is simple: Om Nom, a curiously cute green monster, is hungry, and you can use your mouse to manipulate ropes, airbags and bubbles to feed him candy, and collect stars along the way for more points. It’s wonderfully addictive, downloaded over 60 million times to date, so consider this fair warning for all of you that are new to the game.
Just like so many of the other web experiences we have had the fortunate opportunity to work with leading edge developers on, Om Nom is built entirely using HTML5. All you need is a modern web browser and a little (ok, maybe a lot) of free time, and you can enjoy one of the world’s most popular games free on the web.
Even better, with modern Windows 7 PCs and the hardware acceleration enabled in IE9 the game looks and feels just as rich and immersive as the original app. And when you pin Cut the Rope to your Windows 7 taskbar IE9 takes on the look and feel of the game and unlocks unique levels not found in any previous versions of Cut the Rope, giving you a full Om Nom candy eating experience.
With the launch of IE9, we have had the wonderful opportunity to partner with developers to stretch the limits of HTML5. A lot of the resulting experiences not only showcase the beauty of the web, but demonstrate how fast, interactive and rich the web is becoming, enabled by platforms such as IE9 and Windows 7. Check out Pirates Love Daisies, Disney Tron, and The World’s Biggest Pacman to see a few great examples of what’s to come for the web we all use and love every day. We are excited to see Cut the Rope online and to introduce even more people to a web experience that looks and feels just like a native app.
To get a sense for how the developers at Pixel Lab and ZeptoLab teamed up to turn one of the world’s most popular applications into a web experience, check out the behind the scene technical tear-down in the game. There even is a short video the guys put together talking about how they took Om Nom online - check it out:
Enjoy the game at www.cuttherope.ie. ZeptoLab has delivered 25 levels for you to try, with more on the way. Plus, the game is integrated with Facebook and Twitter, so you can share your sweet success feeding Om Nom with your friends! And to ensure you’re able to unlock the last levels, be sure to download IE9 at www.beautyoftheweb.com.
