Contre Jour started as an iOS game earning multiple accolades, including the 2011 “iPad Game of the Year” and a 2012 Webby award nomination for “Best Tablet Game.” Bringing Contre Jour to the web has resulted in arguably the most ambitious use of HTML5 to date. Coupled with the entirely new IE10 browsing experience, the game play of Contre Jour on the web is simply stunning. It is as fast and fluid as many native apps, and with IE10 and Windows 8, it is perfect for touch. Once you start playing in IE10 on Windows 8, you immediately forget you’re on a website. Contre Jour is based on the French phrase “against daylight,” and the app’s compelling design aesthetic blurs the lines between interactive art and gaming as players are transported into a beautiful, mysterious world. We were genuinely inspired by the unique beauty of the app and wanted to help bring it to the web with HTML5, IE10, and Windows 8.
We partnered with Contre Jour creator Maksym (Max) Hryniv, the team at Mokus, and an awesome developer team at Clarity Consulting.. To be honest, the effort was so ambitious, we weren’t sure it was possible at the start.
“I didn’t think it was possible to bring all the intricacies of my game to the web,” said Max. “I was so reluctant initially that I insisted we start by just developing ten levels. But after I played the game on a tablet using IE10, I was amazed—it was like nothing I had seen before on the web. Once I understood how amazing the web game could be, I immediately went to work on creating more levels!” Contrejour.ie now includes 30 levels – including ten that exclusively work on modern browsers that support multi-touch.
Perfect for Touch: Contre Jour with IE10 really helps paint a picture of what is possible when it comes to the future of touch on the web. IE10 not only provides a browser UI that is perfect for touch -- dedicating 100% of the pixels to the site with a full-screen chromeless UI -- but provides developers a new set of multi-touch capabilities that change what is possible on the web. In fact, Contre Jour is the first game brought to the web that actually requires multi-touch on particular levels. These kind of multi-touch experiences have typically been limited to apps, but with IE10 and its extensive touch support, the team has been able to deliver an elaborate and engaging game that requires users to get hands on to complete levels.
A truly ambitious use of HTML5. The visuals are stunning, and the math behind making all these features come alive is intense. With hundreds of active elements on the screen at any point in time, the level of interactivity is pretty unprecedented. Unlike other games, the game elements in Contre Jour are not simply made up of images or sprites—most of the elements in the game are drawn dynamically using just math and physics on an HTML5 canvas. To display all these elements, it uses four or more canvases in tandem—where most websites only use one at a time. Only hardware accelerated browsers like IE10 can stitch these canvases together to create the fast and fluid experience you would expect when playing a game like Contre Jour.

Never mind... I activated the tracking protection. Without it is working.
I got a question about starting the game. I am not able to start it on the surface or desktop PC in the IE10 as an app or the desktop version. Is there something I have to activate, or perhaps that I accidentally deactivated something?
In my windows phone browser it works perfectly fine.
Gurtej, you have been mislead or you are just misleading the audience of this blog. I am using outlook.com since it was launched and the progress bar is working on IE8 on Windows XP and IE9 on Windows 7 machine. Like Nathan mentioned the per-requisite, both machines have silverlight installed. I have tested Internet Explorer 10 RTM on a laptop and the progress bar is working without silverlight. Also, IE10 has the "most advanced" spellchecker compared to other products. It auto-corrects to closest match and highlight the duplicates like (MS Word does).
@Gurtej, that is not true. I have tested Outlook.com and even multiple file upload control with progressbars which worked perfectly fine. Here are the facts:
- On Outlook.com, IE6,7,8,9 and 10 has progress bar.
- IE10 has upload progress JS API and spell checker.
- In IE6-9, Outlook.com you must have Silverlight installed for progressbar microsoft.com/getsilverlight
- Also, IE 6-10 has Send via SkyDrive button.
When will IE10 for Windows 7 be announced? I am waiting...

Oh nice game. I don't need to spend a fortune and get Windows 8 and IE10 to play it, though. It works beautifully in Chrome or Firefox in windows XP....
anyways... less than 20 days to the release of W8/IE10 and we do not have any news on IE10 in Windows 7. It's been ditched, right?
