It’s been a very busy year for SkyDrive and we’d like to thank all of you for helping us improve the service through your feedback, tweets, Facebook posts, and comments. The service continues to grow: since October 2012 when Windows 8 launched, 50 million more people have started using SkyDrive, helping us reach an important milestone – over 250 million people are now using SkyDrive as the new place to save their files.
In just the past few months we’ve made SkyDrive the default save location for the new Office, updated the SkyDrive app for iOS, and made substantial performance improvements to SkyDrive uploading. Recently, we also announced that Microsoft accounts have grown to 700 million, that we’ve improved the security of our service with things like two-step verification, and that we now have Extended Validation Certificates integrated on SkyDrive.com. And a few days ago, our friends over at Outlook.com announced that they're rolling out a new feature that allows you to insert anything from your SkyDrive directly into an email message. We continue to push forward to a world where all your stuff is in SkyDrive, so you can always have it with you.
We’ve put together an infographic to highlight this milestone.
Thank you to the first 250 million, and onwards to a billion! We look forward to bringing you even more awesome features in the future.

can I have any prove statement from microsoft that shows a skydrive is a cloud computing? am doing my project and I chosen skydrive
Why did you need to destroy Live Mesh?
Skydrive is Ok, but inferior to Live Mesh for my purposes.
Really awesome, Cool interface with good management in cloud Storage, more million will attract to it..
Congratulations on an outstanding cloud service!
What's missing for me though, not sure if Skydrive or WM7.5 team, is that I can't open password protected office documents on my WP7.8 phone.
Why can't people outside United States cannot have survey features? Let me guess, must be the same reason why can't we get Bing services such as shopping, news, pictures, videos and even dictionary (!! which is triggered by "define" keyword)
How does that sound: "Dictionary is only for people in United States"? It sounds silly.
We have to change region to US, to get full featured version.
I wonder what is the wisdom behind all that. I hate to say that but the day Google announces some web(RIA) based service (shopping, news, word-definitions etc.), they launch in all regions and make sure the end-to-end connectivity.
Why are you guys killing your products and global fame when you can save it just by making decisions quickly... wonders me.
Awesome! Loving Skydrive.
I love SkyDrive cause of it's interesting features and unified integration with windows and nice apps for other platforms, I use it every day and my default save and share Location, it's really great, but after these positives we all know there are some lacking features on web outlook.com or apps for windows and other platforms:
// save(download) / attach files right from inbox / compose new mail to / from SkyDrive, It would be better via a pop-up menu / window rather than leaving page. It's really mandatory.(it's available very good in mail app in W8 thanks to new and modern browsing system in modern UI).
// A section on outlook.com to find, import, export and edit favorites ,feeds,...
// Sign in to Microsoft account at least for non windows 8 users to quick access and single sign on to services like SkyDrive when using IE (and to have favorites, feeds, history,... synced with MS Acc.wich is not available for non windows 8 users, of course who logged in with MS acc., and again of course feeds are not synced in this case).
I mean a perfect integration with IE such is a stage for cloud computing.
// Print to SkyDrive right from Print menu as a .pdf or .xps document.(we have to manually upload printed file as a mentioned formatted one)
// A "Send to SkyDrive" accelerator or Add-on for IE or Extensions for other browsers for saving downloadable links to SkyDrive or something else....
And so on
SkyDrive app for windows 8 / windows phone
// Create new files in app using local or web office apps with a default choose capability option....
// Offline option or local sync folder for windows 8, I need it on my surface rt,
// make the app faster to load and navigate, (the above option may help, sync only updates!!)
// make UI more functional, add more options specially the right-click menus, consider the outlook.com version!!
SkyDrive for desktop:
// Provide a virtual drive in computer folder like other partitions on system to give it PERSONALITY OF A DRIVE ( I did it by mapping a network drive using my LIVE USER ID...)
Thank you, the Physical Location is available now to modify, of course only on first time start-up (installation), why?!
// Integrate send to, save to,. SkyDrive in menus and sub menus, ..
And many tweaks can be done on such a lovely service, Make it BRAND Like XBOX, for future computing....
thank you Microsoft keep up the good work
ada yang punya tutorial penggunakan excel survey ? help me
As a skydrive user of yore, there is something I still can't get through ever since you dismantled the access-rights structure. Right now I use skydrive for almost everything, but the good old functionality of "sharing an album of photos with family/friends" remains key. As such, I really want my family/friends being able make comments, but unfortunately that can only be the case if I decide to "share sending an e-mail".
Now, some people may love the automatic e-mail formatting Microsoft does for them, but personally I much rather get a sharing link and write my own. The problem is that right now by doing so people cannot make comments. Similarly, I tend to share skydrive albums on Facebook, but then nobody can make comments directly into the photos.
Sure there are ways to go around this limitation, but imho, there needs to be a way of giving people access-rights without sending them an preformatted e-mail from skydrive.
Please, please, make it possible as it used to be.
I am personally hitting the 20 Gb of personal files and pictures on my SkyDrive. Great job guys, and what an impressive road to get the experience better in the past 12 months. I have now decided to use SkyDrive as my #1 way to share personal pictures back to friends and family - and the photo emails are great.
2 areas of improvement I would still suggest :
- getting the share emails the same way nicely formatted than sharing from the web (sharing from mobile app just send a link - no thumbnails :-( )
- optimize the upload from iOS mobile app (right now i have to upload by batch of 16 pictures instead than all at once) - maybe setting up an "automatic upload" in background option?
Hassan, sorry about that. We're working on getting this corrected.
Oh, dear. You guys totally messed up the Arabic translation for "thank you" in the infographic. Totally not professional. The text is currently reading from LTR instead of RTL.
mskenny dalee and Gyrecon are correct. I've have two step verification working on my windows phone 8 for quite some time now (within the 1st week of them offering it). Granted it wasn't the smoothest setup but none the less it works just fine now :)
mskenny, to further elaborate on Gyrecon's response, two factor authentication works on WP8 and Mac apps. Just like other two-factor authentication services, you need to generate an application specific password and use that to get those apps working.
It is awesome service. Proud user since 2008. :)
mskenny That is not entirely correct, the app on the Windows Phone 8 does work with two-step verification.
The problem is that if you enable two-step verification then you can't login to the SkyDrive app on either Windows Phone 8 or Mac. You'd think they might have thought that one through. You guys going to get around to fixing this problem someday?
Great experience to use skydrive :)
