Check out Adam Czeisler’s blog post from earlier today on Blogging Windows about our work in Windows 8.1 and some of the engineering backstory. You can hear more from Adam in the below video from a few weeks ago on smart files.
So many posts in answers.microsoft.com about issues with syncing.
Linking SkyDrive to a Microsoft Account is a stupid decision. I won't enable it, because I refuse to give my credentials to ANY centralized internet login system.
Do you know the real meaning of privacy and security ?
This is outrageous, I really hope you get into hot waters with the EU commission on this decision.
(I'm a small business associates, and I just forbid my employees to use this default (and stupid) configuration in Windows 8.1).
I was able to use skydrive in windows 8 but in 8.1 it's gone completely illogical. I've designated files for on line use only and they still want to download. It's an unfortunate mess. I wish you hadn't done away with the desktop version, it worked. Do something please!?
They're so smart, even when I've downloaded the full versions of the files to my desktop computer, they can't be backed up with File History in Windows 8.1. That's right; for some stupid reason the dimwits at Microsoft decided we, the users, don't want to be able to back up our important files locally. This is idiotic. SkyDrive versions only work for Microsoft Office files, so if I accidentally overwrite any other type of file, I have no way to restore it. What a piece of crap. Thanks for taking a mediocre product and making it worse for users. I was a supporter of SkyDrive for a long time and told everyone else "just give them a chance". Well, now even I've given up on you. Good riddance.
Ohh thats cool :)

Hi, please make the standalone skydrive app (or make the neccessary changes) available to windows 8.1 users.
It's a shame that you force users to use a Microsoft Account for local login on their own computers.
Skydrive should work as Xbox Music/video and the other services that use Microsoft Account,
I already recommended users to NOT upgrade to windows 8.1 because of thís issue.
Hopefully you will listen to your users/customers and not leave your customers out in the cold.
I am seriously thinking of dumping skydrive as a sync solution to dropbox och box.com
I hope you will listen!!!
more on this
too bad that can only be used if you sign in with a MS account, all the users under a working environment logging into their accounts with the user provided by the IT admin can not use Skydrive anymore.... neither if yo do not want to use an MS account and want to keep using your local account... bad move from MS.
Please add version history to all files in skydrive (not just microsoft office files).
Then I will switch away from dropbox.
+1 for Grzegorz question. I'd LOVE to know this before I upgrade (at 7:00 ET time) tomorrow!!! :)
Adam, how is update from 8.0 to 8.1 handled in relation to SkyDrive?
Is it the best to uninstall SkyDrive desktop sync client before update and re-sync files after the update?
