Our MDOP customers have told us that they want to see Windows 7 Support for Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) so that they can move ahead with their application testing for enterprise deployments of Windows 7 early on. We heard you loud and clear. Today we are announcing the availability of App-V 4.5 CU1 with support for the Windows 7 Beta.

All subscribers of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) can head on over to Microsoft Connect and register to download the update. This release will have access to the new technology for free as part of their current licenses.

For more information, see this blog post over on the MDOP Blog which also includes roadmap information around App-V 4.6.

MDOP is part of the Windows Optimized Desktop. A few weeks ago, Gavriella Schuster highlighted the value of the Windows Optimized Desktop for businesses and announced specifics for the Windows 7 Enterprise SKU, which is an Optimized Desktop offering. For further guidance of Windows Deployments in your environment, see Gavriella’s blog post on the Windows for your Business Blog here.

Brandon, even with an active Connect membership, it doesn't appear that the MDOP is available to everyday punters.. I sure wish it was..

    Suggestion:

    -----------

keep Start Menu and Applaction Menu style consistency

There is no consistency between the Start Menu and the Applaction Menu.

To keep Start Menu and Applaction Menu style consistency, like Windows XP.

All use white color for background, light blue color for selected item.

    to improve it.

Add Toggle option: show thumbnails in 'Details', 'List', 'Small Icons' view mode

    in other system desktop environment,

'Details', 'List', 'Small Icons' view mode also show thumbnails.

Includes all picture files, video files, text files, etc...

    but Windows can't.

add custom option by user to toggle

show thumbnails in 'Details', 'List', 'Small Icons' view mode

    Integration WordPad with Notepad...

Two editors built-in Windows, too many, too stupid...

(After Integration rename application? use a all-new name?)

    (1) Integration WordPad with Notepad

    (2) complete support Multi-Language (ANSI Code). support read SJIS, Big5, GB, KOR, etc... (MacOSX can, Windows can't)

Mac OS X v10.6 will support all View Mode can adjust icon size.

    Linux desktop system already supported.

Why not support for Windows ?

View Mode: Icon, List, Details, Tiles, Content

icon size: Extra Large, Large, Medium, Small

We need single icon size in HTPC desktop (Media Center on TV).

Please attach great importance to HTPC.

    Suggestion:

Add new function to customize single icon size by user (for HTPC).

    size range: 8x8 ~ 256x256

Of course, this will not influence original function.

It is very practical. You can customize your desktop commonly-used icon size.

It can let the desktop be easier to work.
