Last week, I blogged that members of the Windows Technical Beta Program would not be receiving a complimentary copy of Windows 7. Normally I hate to be wrong but in this case, I’m stoked that I am.
To show our appreciation, members of the invitation-only Windows 7 Technical Beta Program will be eligible for a free, final copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. For more information on how to take advantage of this, refer to Paul’s post in the .Beta_Program newsgroup for details.
Tell Paul that Brandon sent you - and be sure to thank him!
I did testing for the 7 ultimate build 7100 beta, sofar I have not been told thank you, kiss my butt or anything to that nature, I have already puchased A new pc with windows 7 home premium pre installed, believe me it's no where near the the quality of the ultimate, it's already done memory dumps five times,I thought that problem had been taken care of. It only happens when I try to turn on my wifi, and then microsoft will not even recognize my pin for the new operating system, bought a new sony vaio, they will not recognize the oem pin, after testing for them, that's a real kick in the teeth
I am using the Beta and the time is about to expire I have ordered Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit but it wont be here before the tiem runs out is there anyway to extend the deadline a week or so ?
I wish I would have seen this sooner, I'm sure it's to late now.
That's wonderfull to here, the 7 ultimate would be really hard to do without, kindof got used to it,I think it's a wonderfull os, I was also curious if micrsoft will be doing any further testing on build 7100, it has more potential than anything I have seen on the market, if not, when you get started with 8, 9, 9.5,I'll jump on the chance to test, don't know what I'd do without the awesome interface.
Pingback from Technical Beta Testers to Receive Free Copy of Windows 7
It seems that few, knows what to do in the tech world, I was wondering if some of us (the majority) have to sweat for every thing.
Wouldn't be nice that a Company like Microsoft that make so much gives so little? for some of us the try and use Windows 7, and help them with our time and effort, would give , some type of discount, for our work?
Disappointed Beta tester
I am happy to have tested the windows 7 ultimate beta, I have been testing build 7100 and am very happy with this program, there have been very few problems, a lot better virus protection. It's a great program.
Still waiting for an invite from Microsoft. Tested Beta from the get-go.
I really enjoyed being a beta tester for Windows 7. Thanks a lot Brandon and Paul.

Thanks a lot Brandon and Paul. tnx highly appreciated!
That is great new, I also got an invitation from Microsoft to Host a Windows® 7 Launch Party, anyone else received the invite?
Not only receive a special Signature Edition of Windows® 7 Ultimate but your very own Windows® 7 Party Pack.
NO ONE HAS ANSWERED MY ? IN REF TO RECEIPT OF WIN 7 RELEASE FOR BETA TESTING
It is such great news to hear that technical Beta tester for Win7 Beta will get free win 7 Ultimate.
I beta tested 32-bit Win7 via download from MS Connect. I've just login to Connect to check and there's no such annoucement.
Would be great if you can advise me.
Thanks in advance.
Thank you Brandon, for the information. I would tell Paul you sent me but, I don't know where to find the Beta_Program newsgroup. Please send me an email at email@example.com and please tell me where to find it. I'm running the 32 Bit Beta version. So far, so good.
I do get the free win 7 Ultimate retail one in October? Will it be the box dvd/cd rom version instead of downloads? I would perfer that one incase I have troubles and have to re-install it? I recive the TN invite in my email so that means I get one? Thanks!
If you would like to participate in the last testing phase, is that still possible?
That's great. I was all set to buy a Mac!
I guess I'll have to reconsider.
Thank you for this initiative
First of all, we should thank to you. Regards.
Since it appers for the first time I started , realy use W.7 as main O.S beside Vista ultimate and XP Proff.
Beside the beta , I tested all available builds.
My current version is the RC1.
Also RTM version installed on other drive.
I sent early my thanks and appriciations, congratulating W.7 TEAM.
Now I expect first release of W.8, and of course the final edition of W.7, offcourse I 'll have the ultimate one.
how do i go to the blog
This will be much appreciated for the many hours spent trying to make something fail on Win7 or push it to extreme limits for MS, only to find out how good it really is.
I can't wait to employ the final release on all the computers on my network.
Hey Paul, Brandon Sent Me
thanks for all you have done
What about those who were invited into the Windows 7 Release Candidate Feedback Program? Will we still get our free copy as well?
Thanks Paul, very nice MICROSOFT!
merci j'espere recevoir cette invitation car cela va me soulager avec tous mes PC
Very cool, thanks Paul and MS! Any info yet on a Windows 7 Launch Event in NYC?
Thanks Microsoft team for a good work on win 7 and Paul Awesome !!!!
How i get the Key ?
I would like to get on the zoning board for this.
Thanks to paul and the microsoft team for a good work on win 7.
It go's to show, only if you tell those that speak poorly about Microsoft? What a great company, community and team it truely is! Kudo's to Paul and Brandon for pulling this off.
Good luck with your free Windows 7......
Wow, I wondered if there would be a nice bonus for testing it, and am very glad to get a copy of it, thank you so much, I love windows 7 very much.
whai i need for get windows 7 ultimate 64?
how do I get in contact with paul
Very unclear here where we go to get this. Please give more information.
how do I get to pauls newsgroup post, I tried to search for it and it came back with Sorry.
I find it a bit disturbing that I WAS one of the chosen testers for Windows XP Pro, turned in over 1200 error reports and got a real nice 8x5 postcard thanking me for helping make XP a better operating system,oh, with Bill Gates rubber stamped signature at the bottom. I tried uselessly to BE one of the testers for Win 7, because I had been so impressed by information I'd received about the (at that time) upcoming beta. So, 9 yrs ago, I got a post card after 6 months participation. And these select few will be receiving a full version copy of Windows 7 ULTIMATE. Nice, guys, really nice.
It shows that they appreciate something. Anything is better then nothing, Thanks !
7hanks Paul and Brandon!
Hello I'm a windows 7 beta tester and a technet subscriber and i wanna say thanks to you guys. I just have a few things to ask how will we know if we're qualified for this free copy? Also will we be able to opt for a 64bit OS?
Thanks Brandon and Paul
Hello I joined the beta and I'm a technet subscriber. I have no idea which beta I was apart of and i was wondering how i would know if I was going to recieve a copy of windows 7 ultimate? Also can we ask for 64bit?
Good choice MS, even though i am not a Win 7 beta tester, i am currently in beta for Office 2010, and while i dont expect MS to give me a copy of the new office, it would be nice.
On the OS side though i think it is a good step for MS to give a copy of it to the beta testers who helped make it the absolutely best OS they have built so far.
Yeah! Good idea from Microsoft ! I agree :D (I've Win7 RC and it's a good product)
I only just got in the business of invitation programs in connect, I didn't even know about it!, I downloaded the public beta of windows 7 the day it was released if I knew about the invitation only program i would have applied straight away, and now your giving a free full copy to invitation only users just rips my heart!
Okay I am a beta Tester and i am wondering if we are to get an email from Microsoft or do we have to go to a specific area to get it
Thanks for the help
Okay.. I am a Beta Tester and I am wondering if they will email you or you have to go somewhere to get the free copy. Your help is appreciated
thx & a lot
It is good to know that after all these months, MSFT recognizes the value of TBT's who strive, through hard work, dedication and expertise, to help MSFT produce high quality products.. Thank You.
Thank you Microsoft.
I heard that a lot a technical beta testers were pretty down about the rumors that they were not going to get rewarded for their efforts. This announcement will make a lot of technical beta testers very happy.
Thanks to them for enduring the crashes and bugs, I only came onboard for the public beta and RC tests, and by then Windows 7 was already very stable so these people have done a great job.
Thanks a lot Brandon and Paul
Totally unfair that you're giving copies only to technical beta testers. Just because public beta crowd doesn't get invited doesn't mean they care less about Windows, haven't worked hard enough to find and report bugs and don't deserve a copy? This is pissing off the public beta testers. I understand that Microsoft simply cannot give away copies to such a large audience as the public beta but why can't do you it like you did for Vista? Give copies depending on the number and quality of unique bugs?
I can't seem to find the newsgroup on Microsoft Connect. And I also can't remember if I was invited, it was so far back. If you find that Shane Bundy is eligible, that's me.
Will the participants in the localisation beta programmes, be elligible for this aswell? :)
Will this apply to RC testers as well? If so, that is awesome!
Thanks a lot Brandon and Paul. A really nice action to thank beta testers
I'm in Connect but I don't see anything and I'm also suscribed to Technet... so What can I do?
Nice for some EH sod you MS here's a big FU from all those in NEw Zealand and thanks for nothing
Nice for fricken some meanwhile we in new zealand get stiffed with the full price why is that MS we got no cheaper pre-order deals no invites to the beta technical infact the only way to get it cheap here is go out and spend over a grand on a laptop or desktop PC the qualifies um i built my own PC and im currently running windows7 RC1 build 7100 and im now told that i'll have to pay hundreds of dollars for the same version OS im running now well here's a BIG FU M$ last time i take time to help with bug reports and sugestions
Hi I'd just like to repost my question in case the previous blog post's comments are nolonger being monitored.
In your previous post you said that:
"Beta testers will not automatically receive a free copy of Windows 7. Many beta testers are already subscribers to TechNet; those of you who fit that description will be able to download Windows 7 RTM shortly after RTM happens for free as part of your subscription."
Does this mean that we can use our TechNet licenses for home, personal use as long as we're not running a business with it?
i got same problem im in the beta testing but no links on it to thred what so ever. all that shows for me is-
Windows Ecosystem Home
Thanks beta testers :) cannot find win7.announce please let me know where to find this. Thanks Mircosoft for the free Windows 7, but when?
Thank you Brandon and Paul for this great idea... I'm sure this goodwill gesture will pay off on the long run!
Thank you Brandon and Paul for this great idea!... I'm sure this goodwill gesture will pay off on the long run!
Thank you Brandon for the referral and Paul in advance for this goodwill gesture!... I'm sure it will pay off on the long run...
It's very nice of Microsoft to do this sort of thing for their loyal customers!
Damn, wasn't invited to the beta :(
It seems there are some tight lips out and about! ;-) Seem many questions asked, but not too many clear cut answers. :-(
What about the rest of the beta testers that were not invited and not on Technet and MSDN? Will they get a copy of Windows 7?
Thanks Brandon ... I only hope that I still fit into that category of "Invited Beta testers" - my Dashboard seems to think I might have qualified . . .
For everyone trying to find the newsgroups, I suggest you explore Connect a little more.
Also, I'd expect an e-mail detailing all of this on 08/03.
Thanks for being wrong, Brandon. ;) I can't wait for 7.
Brandon, Paul, and team. Thank you.
I'm stoked to see that this decision has been made. Nice one :-)
Paul than thanks you very much !
So this doesn't count if I downloaded it myself? damn!
This is excellent news for the TBT who worked so hard to make Windows 7 a reality.
Good decision. Its the least Microsoft can do to thank all the Beta testers... ;)
Also there will receive free copy the users subscribed to " Windows Ecosystem " of Microsoft Connect?
I am a beta tester, how do I know I qualify?
I got a letter like below from Microsoft <Microsoft@newsletters.microsoft.com>
Thank you for evaluating Windows 7® Beta. To help you complete a more thorough evaluation we've assembled an array of resources and put them all in one convenient location, the Springboard Series for Windows 7 on Microsoft TechNet--the resource for desktop IT professionals, offering topical dynamic content as well as peer and subject matter expert connections.
Thanks to Microsoft , to Sinofsky , Andrea R. Luca S.
(Beta Tester Italian SKU)
Great news for us.
Great news :)
Thank you for news, once again Microsoft had good!
Pls guys where can i get the .Beta_Program newsgroup ?
Microsoft treats its testers well by doing the right thing! Very nice.
The technical testing community thanks you!
@gkeramidas: It wasn't when I checked :), but it now is. I even posted a message to .beta_program, which is now dated before the official post on .beta_program.
