Today marks the first post on the Building Windows 8 blog (or “B8” for short). If you’d like to stay in the loop with the behind-the-scenes making-of or engineering of our next Windows release, I suggest checking it out!

  • Windows 8 is terrific and runs on a hardware platform at the absolute minimum listed configuration with no difficulties.  My only problem is getting shares to work without a username/password required.  That is a real pain when trying to use a printer hooked up directly to the Windows 8 computer. It is easy and intuitive to do in Windows 7 but I cannot get it to work on Windows 8 for anything.

Time for a new zune HD/zune player. Also need update to software in the zune HD/zune player please :(

  • I really love Windows 7 and Windows 8 is looking very nice. The only thing im really really disliking is the Explorer ribbon menus. It looks extremely cluttered, something you don't find on Linux DE's and OSX. I think that user "ABM's" Concept is much nicer but it could be taken 1 step further. The title of the window is never really used by people, maybe put the ribbon tabs in the title bar itself and get rid of the title. This would reduce the real estate take up by the ribbon and also give windows that clean cut minimal appearance while still offering all of the same function. Maybe in the actual path/location bar just place bold emphasis or darker text gradient on the current folders name.

Kindly take a look at this proposed screenshot for Windows Explorer RibbonUI: www.moquo.com.ar/.../Windows8ExplorerConcept1.1.jpg

  • There is a lot of Confusion on if Windows Media Center will be part of Win 8 ... Do you have any Info one way or the other ?

  • I am very excited about win 8 especially for my windows tablet.

  • I'm really looking forward to the new Start screen, however, I am still hoping there is a way to permanently disable the screen from running on desktop systems.

I freaking LOVE the Metro Ui i love it on Windows phone 7 and i definitely love it on Windows 8. The start screen is amazing. the tiles are beautiful. I just wish you expand more that to other places instead of just the start screen. I know that it wasn't the final version you unveiled in June but i hope to see more expansion of the metro UI to more places.

Feature Request for Windows 8 (File Management):

    1. Please provide us with the slight advance features, like batch rename and find duplicates natively.

    2. Please let us group the files with color coding, in addition to group the files with the list of attributes. Handy if the user is looking for custom grouping criteria.

    3. Upon File/Folder Right-Click, please provide:  Sync with SkyDrive & send to > SkyDrive

    4. Merge Zune, Windows Media Player & Windows Media Center.

    5. Optimize Media Player and Windows Indexer (coz sometimes they are considered memory hog) and enable the indexer for all drives by default.

    6. Easy way to share files with people on network or internet rather going through implicit ways to share files. [FOR NETWORK SHARE] show the network map with Groups and Individual Devices and the user can select among them to share the file with ease. [FOR INTERNET USERS] File can be shared with friends having live IDs. WLM can be used as a P2P client (avoiding the SkyDrive overhead).

  • Awesome! Love how Windows 8 is looking so far.
