In their pursuit to serve and protect their community, the Vernon Hills Police Department decided to transform the video surveillance in their patrol cars to ensure they were using the best technology for the community and officers. The goal was to provide each patrol car with a computer solution that connected their PCs to patrol car lights, sirens and radar, as well as the police department’s network.
They went to work with Modularis, and created a Mobile Video Platform (MVP) solution that integrates with patrol car systems to ease typically complex operations for officers in the field, and delivers digital video evidence securely and in a cost effective way for the department.
The department installed the MVP a few months ago and police officers are loving it. The multi-touch experience with Windows 7 is very intuitive and requires little training, so officers are up and running in no time and able to focus on safety and other demands of the job instead of being slowed down with technical issues.
Chief of Police Mark Fleischhauer recently shared a great example with me of a time the MVP came in handy, because it was installed in a responding police officer’s car:
“A woman accidentally drove her car into a lake, and we were able to witness a truly heroic act of the officer diving into the water and rescuing this woman in the nick of time just before her car was completely submerged under water. The police department was able to honor the officer’s efforts and we were able to share the video at a ceremony where we honored his bravery – allowing everyone to see his heroic act firsthand.”
Microsoft’s case study about the deployment includes a video that shows how the MVP works – definitely check it out!
Here are some shots of the solution in action:
The MVP with Windows 7 is helping the Vernon Hills Police Department better serve and protect the community, while providing the reliability officers and citizens deserve.
