Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2010 in Orlando, Florida was a good opportunity to reflect on the year since we released Windows 7 while meeting with some of the IT Pros using the product in their daily lives. This year, Gartner Symposium was one of the world’s largest annual gatherings of CIOs and senior IT leaders and the event was an opportunity to gain insights on emerging technology trends, hear from IT industry leaders and speak directly with Gartner analysts.

This year’s event focused on transitions happening in the industry: new realities, rules and opportunities. We heard many sessions mention devices and social networking. Upcoming technologies, such as  cloud computing and virtualization enable new options for the business  users. The blurring between work and personal life was a prominent topic, emphasizing how IT is scaling to provide enterprise benefits in changing times. We also had many CIOs visit our booth to tell us their Windows 7 migrations are underway or being planned to meet the business needs and employee demand.

As customers move to Windows 7 we are providing tools, resources and offerings to help customers evaluate, plan and execute on their deployments.   As part of sharing best practices in approach, I would like to specifically tell you more about the Microsoft customer panel where several IT leaders discussed their Windows 7 deployment projects, and shared best practices and challenges from their migrations. We had a packed room, with 223 people in the audience for the panel discussion featuring Gartner’s research VP and distinguished analyst Mike Silver as the moderator, and senior IT leaders from BMW, Boeing and Expedia as panelists.

We encourage you to check out the on-demand recording of the panel, available for viewing here. We hope you’re able to get valuable insider stories from hearing these IT leaders discuss their deployments.
