Today, Ceton has unveiled their external USB CableCARD quad-tuner product: the InfiniTV 4 USB. The InfiniTV 4 USB will hit at around $299. It with first be available for purchase from Cannon PC and Fluid Digital on August 19th with pre-orders expected to start shipping on September 19th. InfiniTV 4 USB will be available at other retailers such as Amazon, Micro Center, the Microsoft Store, Newegg, Velocity Micro and Zones later in September.
A year ago, I published a blog post talking about upgrading my Windows Media Center PC which included adding Ceton’s InfiniTV 4 PCI Express CableCARD quad-tuner. Since then, I’ve loved the product to death and have used it to record all my favorite shows. However, recently I updated my PC at home and ran out of PCI Express slots (another blog post for another day). Short of replacing the motherboard with one that has more PCI Express slots than the one I have now (which is no easy task mind you) – I could no longer use the InfiniTV 4 PCI Express quad-tuner. So I am absolutely stoked to get my hands on the USB version of the product in September. The InfiniTV 4 USB can be used with virtually any Windows 7 of any form factor.
The InfiniTV 4 USB quad-tuner can also be used as network tuners as well using Ceton’s InfiniTV Network Tuners Wizard. See my blog post here from May on the network tuner experience.
One more thing – for those of you who want the internal InfiniTV 4 PCI Express model Ceton is announcing today a price reduction to $299 for that as well.
But Media Center is dying isn't it because Microsoft wants users to pay the Xbox tax?
What about the Rumors around the Web saying that WMC isn't in the Code of Win 8? Anything to say about that ? I Love my Ceton but if Win 8 Doesn't have Media Center whats the point ?
Something to do with Xbox and live tv?
USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 or both? Having four tuners is probably a bit of a strain on USB 2.0
I sure hope that media center is in windows 8.
I don't care what it is called in Windows 8, but there is some WMC functionality that needs to exist. Combine WMP, WMC, and Zune into one meida center, but please please please keep the DVR and the Remote Control. Do you understand that the Windows Media Center is the best DVR available????? Please keep it in Windows 8!!!!!!
Can you guide me with how the xbox, or TV, or DVD player can be used as a Media CenterExtender for local control of shows via a logitech blutooth keyboard?
Windows 7 is the best one. Microsoft had done some remarkable work but windows 7 is the best in my view
