Today at IFA in Germany, Acer is announcing updates to several of their devices.
The Aspire R7 is a unique 15.6-inch laptop from Acer that comes with a unique “Ezel Hinge”. This hinge allows you to move its HD display forward and into 4 different modes: “Ezel Mode”, “Notebook Mode”, “Display Mode”, and “Pad Mode”. With “Ezel Mode”, you can have the display float over the keyboard at various angles and the device can be used as a traditional laptop or like a tablet sitting on a table. I suggest reading more about the device here in a blog post I did in May. Today, Acer is announcing they are updating the Aspire R7 to come with 4th generation (Haswell) Intel Core processors.
Acer is also announcing their new Acer Active Pen that comes optional with the Aspire R7. The pen uses electromagnetic induction technology and will response to pressure sensitivity like an actual pen. You’ll get a more natural writing experience. And it can be used with gesture controls at the same time.
The updated Aspire R7 will come with Windows 8.1 later this year.
Acer is also updating their Aspire E1 series of laptops to be thinner than the previous generation, come with 4th generation Intel Core processors and available with a 10-point multitouch display. You will be able to choose from two high-definition display sizes –15.6-inch and 14-inch. The 15.6-inch model comes with a variety of discrete graphics options from NVIDA or AMD. Updated Aspire E1 series laptops will be available in Mid-October starting at $449 (U.S.).
