If you’ve been looking for a nice quick and dirty list of all the new things you can do with Bing in Windows Phone 7.5 (aka Mango), you’ll want to check the Bing blog today, which just published a nice overview of Bing Vision, Music Search, Local Scout, App Connect, and more. (Note that not all of these features are available in all markets.) If you want to dive deeper, check out the accompanying video tour of the features co-hosted by Ben Rudolph. Check it out
You know, the sad part of your post is "Note that not all of these features are available in all markets"; until that gets sorted... "who cares..." (reality is most features aren't available in most markets)
Here in Singapore, only Bing Vision has been added in Mango. I can understand why Local Scout isn't there (lack of data?), although I'm disappointed, but why is Music Search not enabled?
In America, is the voice thing available? I'm talking about the one where you can just speak into it and it would just direct you; is that one available?I'd love to have that feature.
Wow! Bing as a real product is only available in one single country with all features and in most other countries still in Beta, with features similar to the old Windows Live Search. This is disappointing.
But more interesting is that the Windows team can't get up with an own blog article about one of the most important features of their mobile platform! Does Microsoft really wan't to compete with Google? Or is this search and phone business just a hobby for 50 employees? Seriously, what are you waiting for? Your marketing isn't able to put together one single professional video to show the features? It's depressing to see that the team hasn't learned one single thing from the failed start. Now the re-booting of Windows Phone 7.5 seems to fail the same way.
I think WP7 is just losing the momentum again.. Announced features that at the end area only available in 1 country, that's just turned-off. Please consider international market before you launch anything. I really hope that WP7 will break through, but the hope is diminishing day to day.
App connect may be problematic honesly. Look how many apps get pulled up when I click on a resturant. Why do I need all of those? Evernote? Really? If you let people app spam app connect it will lose its usefulness.
Any news on the Mango update for Focus V1.4?
where's focus 1.4 update? no one's even updating on the status.
Guys blame Samsung for the update woes, I have to wait to 1st week or so of November for Omnia 7 update. Good to see you back on the blog Micheal.
Yes parity of features in WP is a real problem.
Where's the Focus 1.4 update? Really getting frustrated with how much Microsoft, Samsung, and AT&T neglect us.
Proud owner of a Samsung Focus 1.4... the redheaded stepchild of Windows phones.
Can I Hazz Bing Music and fully working Bing Vision in Austria? *pretty please*
But seriously: why is the Bing Music Search tied to the availability of the Zune Music Marketplace?
@stevie - because all the songs it can identify are in that library
I can't download from the marketplace, anyone else having trouble? It says Service Not Available Marketplace isn't available at the moment. Please check back in a bit. Error code: 805a01f4. It's happened at least since yesterday. Focus 1.3 Mango.
yes not all are available but this is not all down to microsoft. alot is down to your service provider and local laws so dont blame everything on microsoft! don't get me wrong the phone was a BIG dissapoinment when it first came out and that was down to microsoft, but now with 7.5 its like a new phone yes not everything works. but in the UK on orange thats partly down to the network.
Okay, it happened. Just ordered two test iPhones 4s. We have 12 Omnia 7 phones in the company and only 4 received the Mango update. The other 8 phones are still running 7.0 with no update available. And Tethering on Mango can only be used with strange hacks. I really thought that Windows Phone powered phones are business ready, but they are not (I fear).
We have only Bing Vision enabled in India and that supports only QR Codes and Microsoft Tags. Books, CDs, DVDs and even Barcodes are not supported. Can it get any more lame than that? Microsoft's 'region-specific' policy is getting to border on the ridiculous.
Get Scout working in Canada, PLEASE! Does Microsoft only care about the USA? Why can't we have these features elsewhere? Seriously, tell us. The silence from Microsoft on this topic id just depressing =(
Another one of the great features I'll be able to use once Mango is released on Focus 1.4. (that iPhone 4S sure looks nice...)
I have a question about the linked app and the Bing Vision search.
I tried to use the Bing Vision search on several books and CDs, but the linked app is always eBay, even though I have amazon app installed.
Then I tried to duplicate this video
www.youtube.com/watch
But still got eBay (and WPCentral?). Even though I entered the exact words.
Seems there is just no way I can scan a product and buy on amazon! Is there a fall-out between MS and Amazon?
Really Puzzled. Why is the phone not working like advertised?
P's. I have emailed around several people who have the same problem: even though Amazon is installed, but not showed as linked app.
How can I be excited only part of the features are enabled in my country ?? :( MS, you need to get more aggressive and expand your services to non-US countries as well. Otherwise, you'd get flamed for everything that you make US-Centric..
I think Microsoft really showed that they could not compete with the big boys with this update. Many users still waiting for there updates to come out while everyone not in U.S has a limited update. With the iPhone only releasing 4s instead of 5 it was a good time to shine but that didn't happen. Instead many WP7 users are looking at other phones to upgrade to, and it does not include Windows. As a proud owner of Samsung Focus 1.4 I will not be buying another windows or Samsung phone product again. I looking forward to the iPhone 5 release should be right around my contract upgrade time. I traded my iPhone for WP7 and quickly realized the mistake with the Nodo update and it still continues. Oh well was worth a shot, hopefully we get our update by the beginning of next year......
Oh good. Another app I can't use as I made the mistake of buying a Samsung phone. NEVER AGAIN.
MS talks about features being available based on service providers and local laws. How is it Apple has made itunes and iphone features available globally everytime they launch a new product. These are lame excuses for not doing the hard yards to get services active everywhere. What is the point of talking about what is available and all the great features of the latest OS if it cant be used in Australia or anywhere else other than the US.
who cares as long most of those features are not availe to most users?
Microsoft, make Bing and Zune Market place services available for all regions worldwide and in all languages in which you have provided WindowsOS <-- This should be of highest priority.
Michael, it will be nice to provide some replies for most of the guys about your international strategy. It will be nice for your overseas customers to hear that.
Maybe Windows Team should stop posting about mango features until EVERYONE has access to it. Should call Apple they could give you a few tips on how to do this.
IN india its not available..:(
make it available for india too...
Microsoft needs to push for more handsets with 8mp camera before christmas. At the moment its only HTC Titan

Nice. I like it... Except one thing - I'm from Germany and had to set "Browser & Search Language" to "English (United Kingdom) to get Bing Scout. The funniest is that it works perfectly even in Germany. It just not available if your language is German :)))
Seriously, this update is a joke! Windows Phone in Italy, Bing Maps does not have the voice guidance, and was present in 1, RTM, Bing Scout only works if the language is set to English, because, if the information is there because it's not enabled? why should I put into English for information and to give voice commands. IE 9 is a little jerky and slow compared to RTM, I do not know the intentions of Microsoft, but if you really want to sell it is better that there be a move and avoid making nonsense like that, you can not wait for an update in a year ultimately leads only to chat, INSTANT UPDATE fOR ALL SERVICES. If you need a hand .....
