Wow, yesterday was quite a day! We built a giant phone in Herald Square, and threw a killer party featuring Brooklyn punk-pop rockers, Matt and Kim. I posted some photos from the Night Out party below, take a gander. Even with all that action yesterday, there is much, much more celebration to be had! We have Inner Circle events kicking off tomorrow in Miami, San Diego, Washington D.C. and Denver. Then off to Baltimore and St. Louis on Thursday, wrapping up the week with two evenings of the Night Out parties on Friday and Saturday in Chicago, featuring The Drums. Whew!
If you live around those cities and want to come down to toast Windows Phone with food, drink and music, please join us! Registration info for the events can be found by clicking the links above.
We hope to see you there!
Great, you have a party in the US... - how about spending some of the money on fixing the things you broke in WP7.5, like the ability to see email attachments in sent items when synched to exchange?
Been a Microsoft supporter for many years but the lack of bug submission channel is irritating enough to make me want to move over to another OS that does support things I expect to be there and were there befor the latest update... alternatively, give me a way to revert to the previous functionality - and stay there
I hated studying a foreign language in high school and after an entire school year, I still couldn't speak it. I've always been fascinated in the Scandinavian countries and recently decided to learn Swedish. www.rosettastonecom.com No special reason...I looked at it as a new hobby.
ahh ok, well Houston's venue is pretty swanky as well. The other thing I'm curious about is more specifics about what the event is, just chilling and playing with the phones? I know contests etc, but beyond that not a lot of info to be found outside of official releases.
You'll get one the day before the event with an address and such. Other than that, no there's no confirmation email (Odd, right?).
The STL one's arrived perfectly the day before.
Also FYI, they were handing out Drink Vouchers at STL (dunno if that's standard, or just special to the swanky expensive place they had us.) 2 for each registrant. Which means if you're bringing someone have them register as well (we got 2, then I said "My wife is on there too" so they checked her off and gave us 2 more.)
So, I'm a bit new to Win Phone 7, but I regestered to Inner Circle Houston to find out more. However I never got any kind of confirmation email, should I have?
Holy son of a....my wife won a phone and skateboard deck at the shinding in STL.
Craziness ensuses as she's going to give it two weeks and decide if she's going to dump her iphone.
As I said on twitter, I'm not sure if I should be happy she's thinking of going to WP7, or sad she has a better (gen 2) phone than me!
So, anya idea about parking around the Chicago event, and what time does it end?
I just downloaded it, I'm just still not entirely sure what I'm supposed to do with it!
@Rodney, if I ever said I DIDN'T like "I'm a WP7!" then it had to be a typo. I really like the app. As I said, it's almost like a hub (and they just had a new update yesterday). I just wish more people used it.
I'm not aksing for Microsoft Points to be the only option in buying things from the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace.
I was asking for a OPTION to either buy it with Points or by CC.
It completely blows my mind, that Microsoft won't allow us to CHOOSE between one of those Options. This is simply unacceptable. Why the hell, am I allowed to download something for my avatar via WP7 Marketplace AND buy it with Points?
Then again, why isn't this possible on APPS or Games?
So, Brian, where's that v14 update? Still in testing limbo?
Well actually, yesterday I declared that new guy #1 for starting that new WP site, http://www.tweetwp7.com/ ... but, I can step down from #2 and let Scuba have it if you want. I mean you've been here longer than me. LOL..Just Joking, he can have it.
@ Scuba ...That meeting with Paul would be great, but you know what would be even better? a meeting with the worlds biggest MS hatter ever.... Preston Gralla...over at ComputerWorld.com. He should be banned from journalism period!
You can read his crazy rants here. blogs.computerworld.com/gralla ... Now, sometimes he's got a point, but rarely, and it's always condescending in nature.
@Rodney E. Jones
Indeed! I'm counting the WP7 party as my payment! Not only am I running around here, I'm over on the Xbox.com forums (where apparently I'm an Xbox ambassador.....) trying to help people out so they love their phones too! It's not that WP7 itself is hard to use, but it's a significant enough departure from the "sea of apps" that some people get confused. (Also no one is an expert at something as soon as they pick it up, so it pays to be helpful.)
Yes, I'll be bringing my wife to the WP7 party ;). She's situated strongly in the "iPhone distortion field" where nothing can top the power of her magic device (except when my WP7 does...that is to say pretty much always, but then she simply pretends it's not happening or mocks my app support) So that will be fun. Frankly I can't wait to get my hands on a focus S and Flash. I'm probably not upgrading until I drive my current Gen Focus into the ground (it's a cost thing) but that doesn't stop me from wanting to see.
I hope your right that there's been numerous new fans around here! We need to take off! The Flash's price point is pretty awesome when you compare it to similar "Android" phones in that price point (which often are much lower end in my experience) so I hope MS will be able to capture the market of people jumping into Smartphones for the first time, or those like me who want a rich experience without the rich price tag. (I confess I was and still am (a bit) leery about spending $200 on a phone just because of the risk factor of breakage/loss.)
You're more fun because you're thick skinned. We mock, but all is well. I think we can safely declare you "king" of the WP7 blog.... ;)
Yesterday didn't you say that you didn't like the I'm a WP7 app? Or was that someone else?
Speaking of an official WP7 blog app, have you guys checked out the "I'm a WP7!" app?
@tsrblke....actually, I never even followed that contributor count thing, I didn't think I was that big a contributor in the first place. And I have way too thick a skin to take anything personally. Ultimately, I just have a lot of fun with all this. If I can learn something, I count myself lucky. If I can teach someone else something, good too. If I can convince someone in a debate, that's great fun. Bottom line for me is that I'm very much like Paul Thurrott (it would be great to get into an indepth conversation with that guy, particulary with Leo Laporte in the middle) in that I believe no smartphone OS compares to WP7 in experience but that i'm also not blind to ways, huge and small, where Microsoft, the carriers and the OEMs are missing the boat.
[so ends chalking up another post for me =O ]
@DocyDocStar, I have to say that I completely am against any type of "points" system. As far as I'm concerned, it needs to be actual money. Don't make me buy points. If I want to purchase something, let me buy it straight up. I just refuse to play this game with points.
@Rodney....LOL, not quite that long! Although I was the proud owner of the iPaq 3630 WITH the sleeve so I could use CF cards and WiFi!!!! Then I moved to the Dell Axim X5, followed by the X3i. I stuck with that until WP7 (I actually didn't care for WM6.x much at all).
post your comments and vote this thread about focus 1.4
Man, Ive been bouncing back and fourth between blogs helping these new guys out with tips. I think allot of WP's were sold over the past few days, because this blogs full of new comers. It's great, and fun, but it seems like I'm working for MS. Man they should send us a check. Right?
Also, I hope the StL party is fun. And, Don't worry, everyone is going to feel just as awkward as you are, I mean it is kind of weird; a Windows Phone party? That's why they're supplying the sizurup for you guys to sip on!... And,once you get a few in ya don't worry the big ones will turn skinny. LOL... Just joking.
I can't wait till the Dallas party. My wife's going with me. She loves her Focus, but she doesn't like to talk about phones, unless it's time for her upgrade, and then she wont be quiet about it..LOL. I'm going to try to focus more on meeting people then the talking about the devices. Putting people first right? Do you have someone going with you?
Anbody else here going to the Denver event tonight?
@Rodney E. Jones
Indeed the Stroh mentioned it sometime back. Sadly I haven't heard much since then.
Also we're about one day away from the StL Inner Circle party, I'm stoked, free food and booze on MS. I'm not great in social situations so I hope this goes well ;).
As someone whose never minded MS points and buys quite a bit, I would much rather they be the norm for the WP Marketplace as well.
not sure what you mean by shoot me an email means regarding the focus 1.4 update ????????
Do you remember a moderator saying that they are working on a official WP Blog app?
Bad move man, now everyone is going to email you with phone problems (like broken surrounds? Who would do that, the nerve of that guy!). Seriously though, I think you just set yourself up for some focus 1.4 hate mail (I really wish they'd fix that bad boy so WP7 could hit it's full potential. And I hope you guys reeled in Samsung this time!)
@Anyone wanting MS points.
I see the issue here. MS introduced points as a way to avoid taxation problems and exchange rates and the cost of constantly ringing up credit card fees. Oddly they just can't win, so many people hate the points I'm wondering (total speculation here) if they decided to drop them when they got the chance (they're far to embedded in Xbox to do away with them now.)
Additionally, I wonder (since the other main phone OS makers also don't have points) if there's some benefit/requirement to have a credit card tied to a phone account (again, total speculation).
Scuba may have well been around that long, but also he breaks stuff like this up into 3 posts! I noticed he's now a "Top 10 contributor." Not bad considering that's across the entire Windows Team blog (not just phone!).
Scuba, if you're reading this we love you we swear! That's why we make fun of you!
v1.4 Focus mango v1.4 Focus mango v1.4 Focus mango
Well this just has to be enabled on the Phone ASAP! Try using windowsphone.uservoice.com/.../101801-feature-suggestions ... First search for this topic then vote on the one with the most votes. If you cant find a topic related to this then make a new one and vote for it.
Microsoft Points are a virtual currency with whom you can pay for your Game-Downloads, Add-Ons etc. on the Xbox 360.
Why this hasn't been integrated in the Windows Phone Marketplace - despite the fact, that you can play "Xbox Live enabled" Games on a Windows Phone and unlock Achievements etc. is baffling.
Microsoft created this system in order to get a system out to the people to buy things digitally. You can pay your Game Downloads, Add-ons, Zune Music Songs etc. but you can't download a single app for your "Windows Phone"?
What's even more weird, is that you can download Cloathing for your Avatar via Windows Phone 7 an PAY with Mircosoft Points? WTF?
I love my new WP but I simply can't understand why Microsoft first creates such a system in order NOT TO USE it on a "their premire mobile platform"
Scubas been posting on this blog since it was for WinMo1.0! LOL:)
Microsoft Points? What's this?
How are we counting fan numberage? Scuba blows us all away on posts, Sheeds runs a freaken Aussie WP7 website! You and I are small potatoes! ;)
Brian, any info on what's going to happen in my home town at the party? Send us Skipdeez and we can celebrate the World Series win ;)
Now get the Integration of Microsoft Points on the Marketplace going!
More working, less celebrating ...
You are a saint! I will definitely check it out. Oh! I'll step down from number 1 WP fan to number 2, just for you.
!! From this point on I proclaim the "Giant Windows Phone" be nicknamed the "Monolith"... Mark my word !!
I have very good reason for the nickname, which you will see, and this is not negotiable :) Thank you for your cooperation on this matter...LOL
Here is the evidence to support my decision. Monolith (2001 Space Odyssey) www.abovetopsecret.com/.../pg1
Is Canada going to get any celebrations this year? Many people here feel like they've been ignored. I for one bought a Windows Phone 7 the day it was released, and it's a shame to see that you're launching phones all over the place, just not in Canada. I'm one who changes phones 7-8 months and seeing that there's nothing here and nothing even announced, I'm thinking of just switching to some other ecosystem. It feels pathetic really.
So, how about that Focus 1.4 update? Ya know, the one we were promised would not be a problem like we had with NoDo; so many of us did not go through the hassle of exchanging our phones when we had the chance?
Again, also delaying me from updating my apps!
Any word on the update for the v1.4 Focus?
Brian, can you confirm what the Santa Monica/LA events will have? Already signed up, and got VIP, so hope to see you there 11/30!
Thanks for the support guys. Photos will be up in a little bit. My battery died mid upload. Gah!
@mehsdomi Nice! Just used it...
I created TweetWP7.com to pressure big businesses and developers through mass "Retweets" to show the WP7 community is alive and strong! We want the same app support Android and iOS has!
