For as long as Windows Phones have been sold, people have been using them to make beautiful images. We’ve been floored by some of the photographs our users have been able to create (especially the photographs our users have shared with the hashtag #WPphoto), so we thought we’d start recognizing your photos by launching a monthly, themed photo contest.
All winning photos will be featured on the Windows Phone Blog, as well as across our Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest channels. We will of course provide credit and even link to your website or blog if possible.
To kick off this shindig, this month we’re asking you to submit your favorite pet photos. Here’s an example of one:
This photograph was taken by my colleague Lisa, who sends out the awesome Windows Phone newsletter every month. It was taken on an HTC Titan II and edited using the Thumba Photo App and HTC’s Photo Enhancer. Here’s what Lisa has to say about it:
Domino curls up for a nap by the living room window. I think this photo captures how gorgeous her eyes look in the morning light.
When you send in your photos to windowsphone@microsoft.com, please let us know which phone you took it with, which photo apps you used, and 2-3 sentences describing the photo and the circumstances under which it was taken. We’re looking forward to seeing what you all come up with! Here is how to enter:
Too bad this is not open to Verizon customers....just kidding.
Verizon get some more phones with REAL cameras!!!!!!
Is that all.. Go on MS.. sweeten the deal a bit more..
Give me a Win Phone and I'll enter the contest! :)
So is there a way to rename the jpg file on the phone?? I've always had to do that on the PC after syncing... It would be nice to shoot, edit, and submit all on the phone!
Grrrrr.. Auto uploading from WP to Skydrive shrinks the crud out of photos. My "original" is very small now. I submitted it anyway.
Well, it does say "highest resolution possible." :)
I hope that with WP8 we can edit, and view, the properties of files right on our devices. I think its kind of weird that with WP7.5 we cant even see the size of a file from the device. Am I missing something??
I want to see more than just one winner. I would like to see a gallery of the honorable mentions.
@jjbowles We've already gotten tons of fantastic entries! There will definitely be more than one winner and we'll present the winners in a subsequent blog post.
Here are some future WP photo contest entries. skydrive.live.com
Prize is a nice and all, but something material would be nice too :)
FYI!!!!! The WP marketplace now has over 110,000 apps to date. Just wanted to add some spice to your Wednesday...
Rodney E. Jones: Your Spicemaster!! :)
Hey Mike B.
This guy that I've been hanging around for the past three months turned out having a WP.. I just found this out,, I guess I never payed his phone any attention. Lol.. It was funny when I finally saw it laying on a table. I was like "who's phone is this??""" lol....
Arrgh... Day is boring.. I really could use some WP 8 news. This waiting two months between meaningful WP 8 annoucements is getting old. I need to be able to day dream on what Nokia WP phone will be my next purchase.
@Rodney - that's awesome!! You just gotta pay attention! Call it an obsessive tick or whatever, but anybody I pass, work with, meet... my eyes go right to their phone! (Well, ya know... in MOST cases... SOMETIMES the phone might come in second...) =)
This is the best, most important, article yet! This point is "the" point! Please read this!!!

You want people to hand over their photos for FREE, you can then do whatever you wish with the pictures and as a reward you might publish the pictures on the blog.
How is this a contest?
You are using the people to advertise your blog and grow awareness on the OS. Totally normal.
But,
Here's an idea:
How about fixing the FaceBook app so that it does not scale the picture to VGA when uploading. Or at least improve the scaling algorithm.
