This morning in New York City our partners at HTC took the wraps off two stunning new additions to the growing Windows Phone 8 family—the Windows Phone 8X and 8S.
As you might have noticed, these are the first devices with “Windows Phone” right in the name. HTC CEO Peter Chou said on stage this morning that after seeing our plans for Windows Phone 8, he asked his designers to go big and create phones to match our software’s design and personality. I think they achieved that and more. These phones have eye-catching designs, Beats Audio technology for studio-quality sound, and impressive cameras.
HTC announced that the 8X and 8S will be available on 150-plus carriers in more than 50 countries beginning in November.
The official HTC blog plans to have more on the Windows Phone 8X and 8S. And make sure to check back here later this morning for a hands-on video preview and detailed first look at the new phones from Ben Rudolph.
The Windows Phone 8X (above) sports a a 4.3-inch Super LCD 2 display with Gorilla Glass 2 protection and 720p resolution, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 16 GB of storage, and two amazing cameras: The 8MP rear camera shoots full 1080p video, while the front has a 2.1MP, 1080p-capable camera with an 88 degree viewing angle. The 8X comes in California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red, and Limelight Yellow.
The Windows Phone 8S has a 4-inch Super LCD display with Gorilla Glass, dual-core 1GHz processor, 5MP rear camera, and 4GB of internal storage. Its two-tone polycarbonate body comes in four color combinations.
I am of the same opinion as you do, if you consider that the man can say the same respect as you
My next phone will be the HTC 8X! He is great! The best!
They look and sound great. So disappointed that the 8X doesn't have an (external) SD slot.
Amazing phone with amazing colors.. I just loved the colors they have choosen for this smartphone :) Great job
For the 8S and generally all WP8 devices with SD, can we install application and games to the microSD and run from there ? There have been reports that states the SD is only used as a storage device for photos, videos and music. Installing applications from market place to SD are not allowed.
Is this true ?
I want to buy the 8S but if the reports are saying are true and seeing 8S only has < 4GB of internal storage, it becomes a no buy and since we are expecting a "boom" in WP applications with WP8 release, having < 16GB of internal storage pretty much makes any of WP8 devices useless.
MS spec for WP8 should mandate that internal storage flash should be 32GB minimum.
Excellent equipment, but I still waiting for something more than 32GB in genereal
Been on a Droid for the past 3 yrs... After the last upgrade my phone got... Between that Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade and the Motorola upgrades... And with what I'm seeing while using Win8 on my laptop, I'm probably going to jump ship and these HTC phones sound (and look) I could easily find myself on one of these.
However, I'd prefer the front & rear camera also having the extra microSD slot.
@Michael Stroh, yes, but I thought the 8X was supposed to be the premium model? It's like buying a Mercedes/BWM/Lexus with all the bells and whistles only to find out that it only has room for 1 with no trunk space. Or getting Windows 8 only to find out that it only works with 64k of RAM. ;) This has been an annoying trend with all windows phones and it NEEDS to stop.
Nathan - I forwarded that to our contacts at HTC for investigation, thanks for bringing that to our attention.
For a .NET developer such as myself, its really embarrassing to see how HTC is blatantly IGNORING Microsoft's product and promoting Google.
For example, when you go to their developer resources section (htcdev.com/.../windows-phone), it says "Mango Is Coming!" .. REALLY? For this reason, I will go for Nokia or Samsung and ditch HTC.. its going down anyway.. HTC sucks! here comes Nokia <3
No love for us, Sprint customers!!!
I want a full physical keyboard and to have sprint sell this then ill be more than willing to get one of these. They do look awesome but i love having a physical keybaord.
I am really impressed with the front facing camera of 8X. Good for travel junkies and social networking. But 8S without a front facing camera is weird.
Can I trade you the HTC Titan 2 I just bought in April for one of these?
The issue I'm seeing here is the battery... is Li-Ion 1800 mAh enough for a dual core windows phone 8?
Very impressed with these phones. Anyone notice the weight difference to the Lumia? 130g plays 185g... Nokia STILL make bricks LOL
@thundr51: The 8S has a microSD slot.
These look, to me, much nicer than the Lumina 920. The thing that ALL of these products are missing is a stylus and graphiti input!
Maybe its a internal SD card, like under the cover. We still don't have all the information about these devices yet.
Phones look awesome, and I'm glad we have a date (Month) and carriers but did anybody notice that neither of these come with an SD slot? Why do companies think I want pay for bandwidth/cloud storage when I can just add more space to my device with a (relatively cheap) SD card?? I can fill up 10GB with a small part of my music collection.
I'M IMPRESSED!!! No recycled hardware, beats audio, dedicated amplifier!! I'm very happy about this!
