Looking to distract yourself during the daily commute? Many people swear by digital audiobooks, and today Audible, one of the medium’s pioneers, launched an offer exclusive for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 customers in the U.S.—a free audiobook, just for trying out the service.* (To learn more about the Windows 8 offer, check out Kristina Libby’s latest post.)
To get your free audiobook, simply download the Audible app and then:
Your options are The Power Trip, Jackie Collins’ guilty glamorama pleasure; the high-tension Navy Seal autobiography American Sniper by Chris Kyle; and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic The Great Gatsby, narrated by Jake Gyllenhaal (and coming soon to a theater near you). Once downloaded, your book will show up in your library and is available from the Audible app on all your devices. Offer ends May 13.
Which book will you go for?
*The fine print: Offer available to new Audible registrants that register through the Windows 8 or Windows Phone app. Offer good for a limited time only and while promotional supplies last. United States only. No credit card required.
Why advertise it as any book then tell us it is only one of three options?
Really i appreciate the effort you made to share the knowledge. The topic here i found was really effective to the topic which i was researching for a long time
@Michael -So you are telling me I need to re-register with a new email account to get the offer? You can't be serious.
Anybody who experienced problems downloading their free book should be able to now--a bug preventing the offer from showing up was discovered and fixed overnight.
If you already registered an email address, you'll have to create a new account with a fresh address to see the download option, however.
I'm going pull a Michael and remain quiet on that one.. Lol!!
Don't forget about this!!...
Same for me. Only got the "facebook effect".
I've been Facebook excerpted too!
@gmitch: I've repro'd this myself and it's being investigated. Hang tight.
Not working for me on my Lumia 920 on AT&T. It is offering only a free excerpt on a Facebook book.
One more word on bill94in98's comment: If anybody else ever runs across someone notable who appears to be in need of some mobile fresh air--pipe up, people!
@MasonK: What didn't work? Can you be more specific? If there's an issue, I'll pass along to the right people.
On Lumia 920, at the creation page it states at the top "Get a FREE excerpt of (some Facebook book) when you create a FREE Audible account." Nothing about any of the 3 free books mentioned in this article.
I didn't continue and will check again tomorrow in case it hasn't taken affect yet.
bill94in98 "Pull a Rodney": That made me laugh. Rodney, are you listening? You're famous, dude.
But that's a great flag. I'll let the right people here know.
Didn't work on my 920.
Michael Stroh -- I'm going to pull a Rodney and commandeer the thread for a minute. I am not sure if you watch the Morning Joe show on MSNBC. However, Mika one of the main commentators is routinely complaining about her iPhone/iPad. It is such the tradition that it is a now running joke on the show. Yesterday, she had a Surface but was already a bit nervous on making the jump. Someone at MSFT has to reach out to her and put a Windows Phone in her hand and show her the benefits of the MSFT ecosystem. She is the epitome of the successful working mom.
