AT&T subscribers shopping for a Windows Phone have a handsome new option to consider.
The carrier today announced that the Lumia 925, Nokia’s first Windows Phone 8 smartphone sculpted from both polycarbonate plastic and aluminum, is coming to AT&T’s 4G LTE network on Sept. 13. The phone, available in an exclusive black version, will cost $99.99 with a standard two-year contract. You can pre-order one starting tomorrow on AT&T’s website. [Update: Pre-order here.]
“The Nokia Lumia 925 makes a great addition to our growing portfolio,” AT&T senior vice president Jeff Bradley said in a statement. The impressive camera and affordable price tag, he added, “makes it a solid deal for anyone in the market for a new smartphone.”
The phone sports many of the same specs that helped earn its sibling, the Lumia 920, Smartphone of the Year honors from Engadget in February. It has a 4.5-inch AMOLED WXGA touchscreen with curved Gorilla Glass 2, 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 16 GB of internal memory, and a beefy 2000 mAh battery.
But the real standout feature of the Lumia 925 (beyond its sleek looks) is the phone’s 8.7-megapixel PureView camera with optical image stabilization and dual LED flash. Nobody is pushing the boundaries of smartphone photography more than Nokia. The camera’s Carl Zeiss lens, for example, is actually a six-layer sandwich—a design that helps take in as much as five times more light. The result: sharp, naturally-colored images and 1080p HD video, even under challenging conditions.
Nokia is also creating some first-class photo apps to take advantage of its innovative camera designs. The Lumia 925, for example, comes with Nokia Pro Camera, which was first introduced on the Lumia 1020 and makes it possible to manually adjust flash, focus, ISO, shutter speed, white balance, and exposure. Engadget called Pro Camera “the most comprehensive WP8 imaging app we’ve ever used (and arguably one of the best on any platform).”
You also get Nokia Smart Camera, which captures ten 5-megapixel shots in a short burst and then lets you tweak them using one-touch editing options like Best Shot, Action Shot, Change Faces, and Motion Focus.
So who’s planning to grab one?
Another phone for AT&T. Verizon, cmon man!!! Or... Nokia! Wake up and stop exclusives and send the phones to all carriers (Except Sprint, they suck :-) jk )
Looks so darn sexy, I'm tempted, but I wish it had the innerds of the 1020. In other words, I wish the 1020 looked more like this and less like my current Lumia 900.
Such a nice phone. Too bad most of the market for this phone is still stuck with the 920 due to ATT's upgrade policies (would have got the 1020 over this though). The feature of seeing the clock when the screen is "off" is kind of neat on these AMOLED screens.
Does it come in Teal? if not, I will skip it just like the 1020 since anyone can have a black phone but a Teal 920 screams your S4 still sucks!!!
And yet the still haven't approved the Amber update for the 920. Hope they're not going to make us wait until after the launch of the 925 because those of us who have the 920 can't get the 925 anyway if we're under contract.
