Today, the Bing Team is announcing a comprehensive update for their existing Bing apps on Windows Phone (Bing News, Bing Finance, Bing Weather, and Bing Sports) and introducing 3 brand new apps: Bing Food & Drink, Bing Health & Fitness, and Bing Travel. Along with fresh features, your personalized content from all 7 of the Bing apps will now roam across all your Windows devices (Windows PCs and Tablets running Windows 8.1). For example: any places you’ve added in the Bing Weather app will now roam and sync between your Windows PC or Tablet and your Windows Phone! Just set up once with your Microsoft Account, and you’re all set.

You can get a deep-dive on all the new and updated Bing apps from Brian MacDonald in this blog post over on the Bing Blog. However, I’ll summarize a little bit of the awesomeness:

Bing Food & Drink (New!): With access to over 600,000 recipes from leading culinary content partners like AllRecipes, BigOven, Epicurious, Bon Appetit, Saveur, Food52 and more - you can now find the perfect recipe right on your Windows Phone. You can also easily create and manage your shopping lists based on a recipe you find or your weekly grocery list. Your favorite recipes and shopping lists will roam across all your Windows devices.

5 GPSTracker

Bing Health & Fitness (New!): You get access to nutrition, fitness and medical information, hundreds of workouts and tools that can be personalized to fit you specific needs and help you stay healthy. You also get 3 trackers - Diet Tracker, Cardio Tracker and GPS Tracker – to gather information about your activities and nutrition to make healthier decisions.

2 Flights

Bing Travel (New!): Plan and manage your next trip right on your Windows Phone. You can use the Bing Travel app to find all kinds of places with destination guides, rich photos and more. You can plan your trip and book your flights and hotels. And you can pin your flights right to your Start screen on your Windows Phone.

Bing Finance (Updated!): We are introducing ‘My Finance’ on your Windows Phone that allows you to securely track your brokerage accounts in the Bing Finance app, including monitoring account balances, portfolio distribution, holdings transactions and more. This works for folks in the U.S. who have brokerage accounts with E*TRADE, Fidelity, Fidelity NetBenefits, Sharebuilder, Charles Schwab and TD Ameritrade.

Bing Sports (Updated!): Bing Sports on Windows Phone lets you watch live event coverage for NBA, NFL and all major soccer leagues. You also get player profiles that includes news stories, photos and social media updates. And you can personalize Bing Sports for your favorite teams which will roam across your Windows devices.

Bing News (Updated!): New sources have been added including the Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. You can customize your sources and have them roam across your Windows devices. And a much requested feature – the ability to share articles of interest via text, email or on your social network has been enabled!

A day does not go by where I don’t use the Bing apps on my Windows devices. It is great to see the 3 new Bing apps for my Windows Phone and that all the apps roam and sync together across all my Windows devices! Grab the Bing apps today from the Windows Phone Store!

I know that some previous bing apps were hybrid HTML5 apps.  Out of curiosity (and because this question is being mulled over in my organization for building our apps), are these new apps also hybrid?

  • - you are welcome!

    - are you still having this issue or did it resolve itself?

  • Thanks for the update :)

  • After updating the bing news app, whenever i access the sources page, the app automatically gets closed. Do others also face the same problem?

  • Hey, thanks a lot for sharing such update , i bet this is and will be of great help

@Brandon LeBlanc I did that already. My grocery list syncs. Collections and recipes don't.

  • - There might have been a hiccup when you signed in with your Microsoft Account. Sign out and sign back in and see if everything syncs. Also make sure you are running the latest version of the Bing apps on Windows 8.

    1) Now if only we could get the W8.1 reading list on the phone... that'd be awesome !

    2) Any idea of whether the majority of WP users (which are not in the US) will get features such as "My account" for Finance??

  • For the Food & Drink app... It's great! My only feedback at this point is to allow the user to select content areas of interest. For example, if one does not drink alcoholic beverages, it would be nice to be able to exclude cocktails and wine content from appearing in the app. Maybe something similar to a user's ability to select the sources and topics in the News app.

Yes. I've got the apps signed in with my MS account. None of my collections sync.

  • - Are you still having issues?

    - Thanks you for your comment! I've passed your feedback on to the team.

  • First you need to provide search application for Windows Phone users in Turkey. Why that search button exists on device if you don't even have an application to handle its usage?

The syncing for Food & Drink just doesn't work for me. Using Surface Pro and Lumia 1020. Both signed into MS Account. Any special dance I gotta do?

  • Great update.  Now please add Vanguard to your Finance apps list please!

  • Windows is sick, good train to be on, never getting off.
