A couple of weeks ago, I took a little vacation with some friends to San Francisco. It was a fun trip and we only used San Francisco’s public transit system to get around. We did well for ourselves but an app like Moovit would have been really handy. Moovit is a new app for Windows Phone that helps you navigate public transit in a smart way and makes your commute super easy.
Moovit has features like a trip planner, real-time service alerts and advisories (with push notifications), live arrivals, and static transport system maps for cities like Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Chicago, Miami, and San Francisco (these static maps are in PDF so you’ll need a PDF viewer like Reader on your Windows Phone to view them). What makes Moovit really neat though is that it is community driven. Moovit starts with complete schedule-based transit information but then real-time transit data is added from operators and users. Just by riding around with Moovit open on your Windows Phone device, you help contribute transit data for the community and make people’s commutes easier. Today, Moovit supports more than 300 cities and 20+ languages. When I go back to San Francisco, I am definitely going to use Moovit.
Download Moovit for free from the Windows Phone Store.
Don't like Nokia's HERE Transit? Don't like Nokia's HERE Transit? (or is that still a Nokia exclusive?) Moovit's UI is brighter though.
