A tip I am surprised is missing...

You can easily create a "favorites" section on your start screen by simply going to your favorite contacts and pinning them to start beneath your phone tile. Saves a lot of searching and typing time.

Windows phone Phone App has to be redone.

1) When invoking on a Phone app, let history be there, but please bring the number pad in the bottom part right away.

2) Tapping numbers should search the People by name, by surname and by the numbers, and the results should appear above the number pad with every tap.

It's very long to call someone with the current phone app -- in order to find a contact you need too many taps -- Phone, Address Book, Search and only then Search for People... No need for those taps, you have to search People right away.

i like the redesign BUT

1 messages still allow text only (super annoying)

2 you put regional restrictions on apps which is very annoying but in case of global FB beta that's actualy SUPER annoying

3 you call sending a log a feedback??? This should be fully automated while feedback is for providing verbalized user feedback

I mean 4 real: I'm giving WP a third go now with lumia 920 top phone for the platform and i still feel like this is totally subpar experience compared to my nexus 4, and I really want WP to be a sucess as I love overall UX, look and feel, nokia phones build quality etc. But this platofrm is lagging a year at least and so many small anoying things look like you don't learan (e.g. my lumia will not connect to FB messaging - thi isue has been reported with WP since 2011 and it still has not been fixed - for Christ sake guys!!!)

You could make it possible to call someone from the messages screen. Like it is on Android, if you select a message topic and slide to the right you call the number. It's simple !

Another update: As part of our debugging here we actually found an issue that would affect a subset of people! I am hopeful this is the root cause of the issue we are seeing. We have a fix that is targeted to be out in a few weeks if all goes well. I will re-post when it gets released, or if the estimate changes substantially.

In the meantime, if you've already gone through the steps I outlined earlier, one additional thing you can do to make it more likely this will get pushed to your phone is to ensure it is connected to the internet *before* you plug your device into power for the night. This will not work 100% of the time, so some people will need to wait until the fix comes down in a few weeks.

SMBowen, if you select 'best quality' it will not pre-upload a 'good quality' photo over cellular first. It will upload only the full resolution photo once you connect to Wi-Fi.

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for chasing up the problems we're having. Just to let you know, a couple of days ago Telstra released a WP8 update for the Lumia 920; unfortunately the photo backup settings still don't update. Again I tried to change region, and could get the full res setting (after a lag period) for US, but after changing back to Australia they disappear (eventually).

The new OS and firmware for the 920 with Telstra, Australia, are:

os: 8.0.10211.204

firmware: 1232.5962.1314.0009

I appreciate your effort in adding this article. I would expect more native functionality. Have you tried RapDialer(Free version) ? Its worth every penny. We would like to see something like that on OS only rather than depending on an app.

BTW: RapDialer your app rocks.

1. Add favs(like iphone) less clicks(I still dont know why it asks for confirmation).

2. Type letters, phone number comes

3. Type numbers, name comes

4. Text option for contacts...

Let windows give a try to make things better after all "Windows makes life and tasks simpler".

These tips are pretty obvious but ultimately useless. Why not point out that you can use speech to initiate a call as well?

And let's cut to the chase... what would really make sense is a feature that existed waaaaaaaaaaay back in the Windows Mobile days with Smart Dialing (you know, typing the name/number and having it auto-filter your contacts). Let's make that happen, eh?

Aaron...just curious; if I select "Best Quality", will it upload a "Good Quality" initially over data then overwrite with a "Best Quality" when on Wi-Fi? I am trying to balance the instant backup option with the quality backup and both would be great!
