Paramount Pictures announced today that they’re bringing enhanced movie apps to Windows Phone 7.  Paramount is releasing 10 full movies which include all the bonus content from a DVD plus stuff you can’t get on a disc like trivia by ‘Scene It?’.  This is cool for a couple of reasons.  First, I’m a huge fan of Zoolander (in case you couldn’t tell from this post’s title Smile) and it’s one of the movies they’re releasing.  Second, this was all done leveraging the power of Silverlight on WP7.

We’re continuing to see a fantastic array of rich, interactive experiences built for Windows Phone using Silverlight.  Many developers also choose for their app to appear alongside the user’s media by integrating with the device’s Music & Video hub.  Want to learn more?  Check out the Getting Started resources for Silverlight on Windows Phone.

  • So these are movies in the form of individual apps? If so, then if they make a lot of these, then there should be some sort of list to archive these apps in one place. Or maybe have them accessible from Movies + Video.

As this is currently only available in the US, I cannot see how much Paramount are charging for this. I think it would be excellent if it was actually free, with the full functionality of the app unlocked by entering a code that is including in the physical product. This is the approach taken with the Digital Copy system and it would be great to see this carried over to WP7.

I don't really want to pay twice for the films ...
