Backstory: Building the Office Blogs app for Windows Phone

I love behind-the-scenes stories about apps, which I find helpful as I work on my first one for Windows Phone. Today Microsoft’s Craig Kerwien provides the creation story for the official Office Blogs app, which hit Marketplace last week.

In the post, Craig talks about how the effort went from a weekend DIY project—he’s a hobbyist, not a full-time developer—to an official Microsoft-sponsored app, and sketches out how he coded it using some of Chris Koenig’s popular starter kits (which I’m also a fan of). It’s a fun read, especially if you’re just starting out.

Speaking of good reads, here’s a question: What kinds of posts would you like to read on the Windows Phone Developer Blog in 2012? As we plan our editorial calendar for the year, we’re kicking around ideas like developer profiles and behind-the-app posts, beginner’s columns and code samples. 

But what would you like to see? We’re all ears.

    Why this app is US only? I am in Singapore and not able to get his app in markerplace.

    Good stuff. Would love to see more blog posts from developers on this blog. Happy to weigh in and write too. It's nice to see how different developers take advantage of the platform.

  • @mvadu: Thanks for weighing in. Posts that dig into the controls and behind-the-scenes decisions are good ideas.  As far as "marketing crap" :-)--not sure I understand. You mean in general? Or posts like this one about how somebody created an app?

    I would like to see more in depth articles on some if the controls like listpicker, autocomplete (like the one Jeff Wilcox wrote on his blogs), being developer blog those kind of stuff makes more sense. Or even behind the scene discussions which led to some key decisions, like the kind of stuff Steven Sinofsky writes on Building W8 blog. Cut the marketing crap.
