Windows Phone App Studio beta has been live for almost two weeks – with a few hiccups. Today I’d like to share a few of the learnings and tell you about enhancements we’re releasing today.
First of all, I’d like to thank every single one of you for your support and feedback. You’ve been helping us work out the kinks, and sharing ideas about how to make the tool better, from templates to tutorials. Thank you.
We created this beta with the idea that it would become whatever the community made of it. We wanted you to experience a new, easy way to get started with Windows Phone and see what it’s like to create an app, and then bring it to life on your own phone. To be honest, the response rate has been well above what we expected. In the first 48 hours we saw more than 20,000 people from all over the world kicking off more than 30,000 projects, and just a few hours ago we surpassed 55,000 active projects. To help manage demand we’ve implemented a temporary access code system – just sign up to get your access code and access to the beta. If you need help with access codes, send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We knew this tool would appeal to hobbyists and enthusiasts, but we didn’t expect quite so many to jump in so quickly. It’s been wonderful to see the enthusiasm.
We’re getting feedback from users that they really like creating apps on their own terms – personal or specialized apps for specific local needs, and which they can share with friends and family. Apps created in App Studio don't automatically publish to the Windows Phone Store or raise the number of apps available to everyone, and we’re fine with that; it’s great to see hobbyists and non-professional developers using these tools to create apps for personal use. If and when they’re ready to offer their apps more broadly, it’s easy to take the next step to open a Dev Center account and submit their apps to be published in Windows Phone Store.
We’re finding that professional developers have begun using the tool as well. One of these is developer Rob Miles, who is documenting his experience importing App Studio code into Visual Studio to create a custom app that he can submit to publish in the Store.
Your feedback also is helping us define where we will take Windows Phone App Studio beta next. We see the potential and we’re moving fast to help more people transform ideas into apps. Today we’re adding new functionality to provide connections to additional external data sources; improving code legibility; and adding new templates. Several of you also asked about integrating Flickr feeds into the apps you create, so we’re adding Flickr as a data source. In addition to these enhancements, today we also are making some fundamental changes to Windows Phone App Studio beta to improve the overall performance and scalability of the system.
I encourage you to continue to provide your feedback and share ideas on our User Voice site. Please also join the discussion on Twitter via @wpdev and share examples of the apps you’re building.
bmsjr you are right on that.. that is the phone that sells,, but
1 1ghz dualcore = where one of the core are lock down,, what that will do to developers
developers can only use 70mb of memory for apps and games
no apps and games will be made on the device ,, course of mores law, andthe speed of tech been push out to the market,, it can simple not run..
and if we are down in that price range,, people whant the apple,, and all the dum heads who dosent know what a smart phone is , buy a google device, CHEAP DEVICE,, cheap than windows phone lumia 510 or 20 somthing
and that is the problem google does not care about profit from android in short term,, IF THAY FIRST GET PEOPLE HOOKS ON THERE DEVICE,, people store there , video, photo, email, and all the stuff , and as i say thay can never go to another ecosystem, thay can not take there stuff with them to windows phone or the apple
there have two been implementes a LAW THAT ALLSO RESPECT THE PEOPLE IF THAY WHANT TO MOVE..
AS LONG THIS IS NOT IN PLACE ,, MICROSOFT AND APPLE WILL LOOSE IN THE LONG RUN
GOOGLE IS RUNNING A FREEWARE BUSSINESS MODEL OF MICROSOFT IN THE 1996 AND FOREWARD
BUT IT IS A CLOUD BASED SYSTEM, AND THAT IS NOT THE SAME AS A DISK YOU BUY AND THEN GO HOME ON YOUR COMPUTER AND INSTALL THE OS..
allso microsoft desktop in xp and windows 7, vista windows 98,windows 95, melliumem copy and nt
have all ICONS ON THERE DESKTOP,, PEOPLE KNOW THIS,,
THAT IS WHY APPLE BUILD A PHONE WITH ICONS, AND THE SAME DID GOOGLE
MICROSOFT BUILD AN OS WITH TITLES , AND ALL THE STUFF PEOPLE USE IS INTERGRATED INTO THE DEVICE...
PEOPLE DO NOT LIKE CHANGE,, THAY STICK TO THE ICONS AND WHAT ARE THE ICONS
TUCH TO START AN APP. AND CLOSE DOWN THE APP
WHAT IS WINDOWS ALL VERSIONS EXEPT WINDOWS 8
CKLIK THE ICON TO START AN APP. AND CLOSE
AND THIS IS THE PROBLEM, MICROSOFT FAIL TO EXPLAIN THE THE CONSUMER THAT ..
HEY LOOK AT OUR NEW WINDOWS,, LOOK AT OUR NEW ICONS(TITLES)
YOU SIMPLE TUCH THE ICON, AND START THE APP. AND PRESS THE WINDOWS BUTTEN ON PHONE,TABLETS TO CLOSE THE APP..
DO YOU LIKE THE NEW ICONS,, IT THINK YOU DO..
THAT IS HOW IT SHOOD HAVE BEEN DONE BACK IN 2010..
AND THEN MICROSOFT SHOOD HAVE SAYS TO THE CONSUMER LOOK WE INTERGRATHE SOME STUFF FOR YOU ALL READY,,
THE STUFF YOU USE EVERY DAY
FACEBOOK,EMAIL,AND OFFICE ON THE GO TO TAKE SOME NOTES,,
TUCH THE FACEBOOK ICON, AND YOU ARE GOOD TO GO
END OF STORY
love apps.windowsphone.com, now I can buy a $100 phone (lumia 520) turn on wifi and start teaching my kids how to program! What's not to like. I just had a guy ask me why would he buy a ipod touch if a $100 phone can do some of the same things.
let jump 6 years into the future
you know this by now..
no one will not use windows , that is the result of this out come
of current technoly that are been push out to the market.
So you are seeing the 3 rings of death
Sad, verry sad
No release date, no 21 markets any more , now only 13
13 an odd number, a bad number,
i think this year you at microsoft will see apple and google will start tapping into the last ring
the enterprise business you have , and by the end of 2015 you have handed over 25% of this business
MY conclusion is this
if you whant to do it all by your self , people abandon you..
1. you have a business called games,, and you have buy manny small indie games companyes
so you can do your games on your own platform AND LOCK anyone out trying just to publish any think
2. let the people / small town developers do the you tube app,, we all know that you whant the data on what people are wacthing, and google will not share that with you.. let go
3. when apple takes the stage,, THAY ALLWAYS HAVE A RELEASE DATE AND PRICE AND WHERE YOU CAN BUY. that is your problem timming,, speeking of timming we all can read that you have been banned from the benchmark programs , becourse your new model of differentiation between big publishers have acess to the FULL CLOCK SPEED , AND SMALL TOWN ONLY HAVE A FRACTION of clock speed on your phone, tablet, and all otheres windows 8 products include the upcomming xbox one,, it that the deal with EA to keep indies for pushing the power on your new console..
4. YOU FAIL that is why you have geving a free fifa 14 with xbox one,, TO SECURE THE DEAL YOU HAVE MADE WITH EA.. so you have buy the game from EA and EA is now happy but not you..
5.WHY is allway the next version of windows that works.WHY does never work out of the box..
6. Why have you disable directx 11 for windows 7,, all developers know this.. that is why thay does not support you
windows 8 is a tablet os,, not a real os
7. the new lumia 1024,, shood had have a snapdragon quad s4 pro chip, you fail on that two, back to your business ,, when you have varius products and i can see that the phones has less power than your tablets, and the tablets has less power of your laptops, and the laptops has les power than the desktop, and
AND THE XBOX 360 HAS THE POWER OVER ALL OF YOUR SYSTEMS , a nice ecosystem but this does not work
hardware and power is comming faster to the market, we are now down to 9 month before it shifts
and this is the problem with windows devices
8. one TITAN graphics card is more powerfull than your xbox one.. big problem. you say CLOUD IS THE ANSWHER
i will say no to that,,cloud compute a platform that you speek high of ,, yet no one have ever see this thing in action
9. there are now 1.9 billion smart devices out there ,, 450 million runs opengl es 3.0 = directx 10.1
by the end of 2014 you will see games that are better than the stuff you have on xbox one,, sad
at build 2013 you shood have showen people the xbox one dev kit,, and given a release date for the public
10.but any way if you have make all these mistakes, it can only meen one thing,
YOU CAN NOW BUILD THE OS YOU HAVE DREAM OF FOR MANNY YEARS,, NO MONOPLY ANY MORE
11.HOW COME that the stuff people not developers normal people use every day does not work on windows
EMAIL,FACEBOOK ,microsoft office, AND SOME NICE GAMES,,
12.in order to understand the YOUTUBE generation of people, you have to be on youtube to understand, do some live broadcast or somthing,,
13. a nice number , allso the number of release of xbox one,, allso a bad luck number,, sad
the 99 dollars pin head that runs you show steve his days is starting to count down, as well the shareholders demands change, stock prices starting to shake your company, and more will come
you know i like you , but i allways allso have like the othere steve,,
so i have somthing extra for you.. this time
THE ONLY THING THAT EVER MATTERS IS THIS..
GIVE THE PEOPLE THE HARDWARE, EVEN IF THAY DO NOT USE IT,WHAT DO YOU CARE
SHOUTDOWN YOU CURRENT ECOSYSEM OF DEVICES AND START ALL OVER WITH THE GOOGLE BUSSIESS MODEL OF DEVICES, THEN YOU WILL GET MARKET SHARE,,
and steve balmer says there are 1.5 billion windows mashines out there..
but you have onle sold 100 million(phones,tablets,windows8 devices) to your OEM what about start counting a product activation instead like google does, this will keep you stock stable,
and if you are clever,, release windows store apps and games for WINDOWS 7 , so that steve dident have to lie all the time about windows users,,
