My Favorite Windows & Windows Phone Apps #3

It’s time for #3 of my monthly series of favorite Windows and Windows Phone apps. You can read the first post by clicking here and the second post by clicking here.

Microsoft OneNote (Windows and Windows Phone):

1

OneNote is one of the most critical apps on all my devices. I’ve made it a goal to go completely paperless with my notes and OneNote makes this super easy. I use OneNote everywhere I can – to capture my thoughts, ideas (like future blog post topics) and to-do’s. I can hand-write my notes on devices with pen support like my Surface Pro 2 or Dell Venue 8 Pro. Or I can type my notes in. I can share my notebooks with others for viewing or editing. Right now, my fiancée and I have a shared notebook we use for grocery and shopping lists we both regularly use on our Windows Phones. And we also have a fairly extensive wedding checklist we use in OneNote to make sure all our wedding planning is on schedule, etc. OneNote syncs across all your devices with OneDrive. And best of all – OneNote is free everywhere. Just head on over to OneNote.com today and get started.

Office Lens (Windows Phone):

2

Office Lens is a most excellent companion to OneNote. You can use it to “scan in” things with the camera on your Windows Phone including whiteboards with notes from meetings or things you see when you’re out and about. I use it all the time to take quick captures of things I want to remember or follow up on. Download Office Lens for free from the Windows Phone Store. And read my blog post here for more on Office Lens.

Avengers Alliance (Windows and Windows Phone):

3

There are a few wonderful Marvel games in both the Windows and Windows Phone Stores. I like playing most of them but Avengers Alliance is my current favorite. You play as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and have to recruit Marvel heroes like Captain American to battle against villains like Loki. You can download Avengers Alliance from the Windows Store here and from the Windows Phone Store here. The game is free with in-app purchases.

Breaking News (Windows and Windows Phone):

 5

There is a lot of things happening in the world at any given moment and to stay up on the latest breaking news – I use the Breaking News apps from NBC on my Windows Phone and Windows PCs and tablets. I also get breaking news notifications in the Windows app which is helpful when I’m busy working or doing something like playing SimCity. Download the Breaking News app from the Windows Store here and from the Windows Phone Store here. Both are free.

Honorable mentions:

Microsoft Research recently updated the Blink app for Windows Phone to add a bunch of really awesome new features. See my blog post here on the details but you definitely want to download it and give it a try!

And I’ve got some updates on the Project Spark front. The Project Spark Beta is now available on the Xbox One so the games you were working or playing from others on Windows 8 will also be available on your Xbox One too!

And this is really cool: To celebrate their upcoming new album, Linkin Park teamed up with Team Dakota (the team responsible for Project Spark) to create the first-ever entirely remixable and interactive music video and gameplay experience in Project Spark!

The game level “Guilty all the Same” features their new hit single “Guilty all the Same” and allows you to remix the gameplay experience and audio remix station enabling you to build whatever they want. Check it, out its pretty awesome.

As always, if you have any suggestions on apps for Windows or Windows Phone I should check out, leave a comment below!
