The cool thing about Nokia Point and Find is that it’s an open platform – so other companies can work with Nokia to create new experiences for users. The first two out of the blocks include Movies and barcodes. Also hitting London is an integration with Body Worlds & The Mirror of Time at the O2. The exhibition has an outdoor advertising campaign running across London which, when accessed by Point and Find users, will bring up a whole range of additional info on the user’s device.
The service itself uses real time image processing and recognition technologies to connect users to digital content and services. Using a combination of imagery, camera, Internet and GPS positioning technologies the app will evaluate the object in focus and return any relevant information, having cross-referenced the object against a database of already tagged objects.
Point and Find will only work on select devices at the minute (well, it is in Beta) and these include: N82, N95, N95 8GB, N76, N81, N81 8GB, E51, E66, 6290, 6124 Classic, 6161 Classic, 6120 Classic, 6110 Navigator and 5700 XpressMusic. Yep, no E71 or 5800 yet, we’re gutted too.
If you’re still reading at this stage it probably means you haven’t downloaded the app yet. You can get it from PointAndFind.Nokia.com. Make sure you come back here and let us know how you get on.
