Big Roll in Paradise – free this week

BRiP_icon_256x256GLOBAL – With the arrival of summer, our thoughts are already turning to the beach – sun, surf and sangria. Sadly, though, our holiday isn’t booked till August, so in the meantime, the closest we’re likely to get to a tropical paradise is the latest free download from Nokia. Big Roll in Paradise – developed by Infinite Dreams – is a fun game that’s all about bocce.

Bocce, for the uninitiated – which included us until this morning – is a ball game in the same family as boules and lawn bowls, where the aim is for your team to gets its balls closest to the jack by rolling or throwing them across the court.

Big Roll in Paradise will have you vying against assorted opponents as you compete in various championships across the Bahamas, with a sub-plot involving hidden treasure. You can set the direction, force and elevation of your throw, with a nifty physics engine showing the results of your choices as the game unfolds. Different playing surfaces, such as asphalt or sand, require different tactics, lending variety to the gameplay as well as a change of scenery.

From now till Friday, the game is available for free from the Ovi Store. Thereafter, it will cost a princely two Euros. It’s available for most Nokia S60 5th Edition devices – specifically, the Nokia 5230, Nokia 5233, Nokia N97, Nokia N97 mini and the Nokia X6. We’re told that more are in the pipeline.
