The basketball Gods smile on Turkey

The eagerly anticipated match between Turkey and Greece happened on Tuesday night and it was…. EPIC.

Greece crumbled in the most intense atmosphere you could possibly imagine – with the hosts coming out comfortably on top by 76 to 65. It’s difficult to put into words quite how loud it was in there, suffice to say my ears were still ringing 24 hours on.

I’ve witnessed the famous atmosphere of Liverpool FC’s Anfield on a European night, but honestly, the Ankara crowd on Tuesday night made The Kop seem like a shy and retiring bunch. Truly incredible.

Myself, basketball experts Mark and Pinar, and Luis of Nokia enjoying the red hot atmosphere in local colours. Thanks to Markus for the pic.

It’s still only the group stages on the FIBA World Championship, so there’s still plenty more action to be enjoyed. You can keep fully up to date with the tournament (with daily blog posts from Markus and Mark, no less) with the Ovi Bball app.
