Portland, OR, United States –
Touchdown! October  has landed and America’s most popular sport is underway for another unmissable season. We’re talking Fall and football  (the American kind with the ball that isn’t round). Forget soccer, whether you’re a college or pro player, fan at the game or at home on the couch, this is still about as big as pastimes get here in the US.

To satisfy our thirst for knowledge, we need to know current stats, standings and news surrounding our team. Nokia fans are not deprived of a plethora of great applications meant for feeding our craving for these pertinent details, standings and stats.  But which apps stand out amongst the crowd?  Let’s dig in and find out.

CBS Sports: CBS is a major broadcaster in the United States and CBS Sports is an online destination for sports information. CBS Sports has developed a very good looking and responsive application that provides a wide range of information for football fans, both for professional and college fans alike. This application provides breaking news regarding each team and conference, along with live scores with full play-by-play action. I use CBS Sports to keep track of games in progress, with statistics and live play summaries as they happen.

SBNation’s CougCenter: Another sports destination, SBNation, is a website that provides current news, statistics and analysis for a variety of sports. The publishing house has created applications that gives supporters of specific teams a custom app for their team. In this case, we focus on CougCenter, which covers the Washington State Cougars athletics news. It’s available for Basketball and other Cougar sports, but the biggest focus is on college football. There are apps available for many teams, so check out Ovi Store to see the app for your respective team.

YardBarker: YardBarker is an online sports news source with an edge. Not only does the site cover upcoming games and matches, YardBarker discusses the rumors and gossip behind the sports teams and the players who make it interesting. The NFL app, available on the Nokia Store, provides edgy and provocative articles that you’ll want to read again and again. Your favorite stories can be shared out to social networks including Facebook and Twitter. Also, stories can be sent to friends via more traditional means including text messaging and old-fashioned email.
