Breaking a World Record with the Nokia N9!

I have the pleasure of introducing our first guest post on Nokia Connects. Mr. Patrick Walsh tells us in his own words the amazing feat he is undertaking this weekend.

Over to you Patrick…

Hi everyone!

On Saturday 22 October, I will be attempting to break two Guinness World Records with the help of a Nokia N9. These records are:

– Longest ride on a Fair Ground Attraction:
– Most photographs taken in a 24-hour period:

The world record attempts will take place on Saturday, 22nd October on the massive 60-meter big wheel, known as the “Revolver”, at Dublin’s Point Village in Ireland.

While I will be completing the longest ride on a Ferris Wheel with 19 other people, I will be the only person attempting to break the record for the most photographs taken in a 24-hour period – just me and my Nokia N9!

The purpose for attempting to break these records is to raise much needed funding for the Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust. Funds raised from this record attempt will go directly to helping to maintain vital support for the running of the Haematology Department in St James Hospital, Dublin, Irelands only allogeneic transplant centre.

The Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust, led by Professor Shaun McCann, is a national charitable Trust dedicated to supporting the patients and families living with leukaemia, lymphomas, myeloma and other blood cancers.

Founded in 1981 the Trust helped to develop a national centre for stem cell (bone marrow) transplants. It continues to support the patients, the medical team and the unit in St James’s Hospital Dublin.

So, why have I chosen to use a Nokia?

I have been using Nokia phones to take photographs as I have travelled throughout the world for over four years. For me nothing else can offer the picture quality, the functionality, the battery life and the connectively that I need to complete such a mammoth task. No matter if I was in the cold of Antarctica or the dust of Africa, the Nokia phones I have used have always been up to the task.

OK, you may say that there are many DSLR’s on the market that can take better pictures, but I would say they don’t have the connectivity or the battery life of a Nokia. With the Nokia N9, everything I need is literally in the palm of my hand.

As I take thousands of pictures throughout the day, I will be posting a select few directly to my Facebook group ‘is: Nothing but a Nokia’ – so feel free to check out the group and leave messages of support (that’s if you can’t attend in person!) . I look forward to hearing from you, and I will respond to everyone when I get the chance.

If you would like to get involved and sponsor Patrick on this World Record Attempt then please click here sponsor.ie as every €1/£1/$1 counts. If you want to go and watch him he’ll be at Dublin’s Point Village in Ireland this coming Saturday.

We can’t wait to see how Patrick gets on and we’ll be sure to cover his exploits next week!

Good luck Patrick!
