For buyers of the Nokia Lumia 710 on T-Mobile, retail purchasers of the Lumia 800 bundle (and for the Lumia 900 on AT&T when it is launched), SmartStart provides a live phone guidance session for new phone owners.

The intent of SmartStart is to assist new Lumia phone owners and get them set up and personalizing their phones in less than one hour. By guiding consumers through the set up and personalization of their phone, Nokia Care wants to help users make the phone theirs within the first few days of busting it out of the box.

How the program works:

After a Nokia Lumia 710 or 900 has been bought and is in the customers hand, they’ll visit the SmartStart site to start the process.

The SmartStart service is available Monday through Friday during the hours of 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM Central time and on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central.

Then, customers are able to schedule appointments every hour, on the hour and the calls last between 30 and 40 minutes.

Customers can choose up to three from the following topics including:

  • Productivity: email, calendar (active sync) and People Hub
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
  • Social: Internet browsing, Twitter and Facebook
  • Phone Features: Camera, Bing Maps
  • Personalization: color scheme, background, home screen, ring tones, security code
  • Windows ecosystem: Live ID, Zune, Marketplace.

Once you’ve decided which topics you’d to know more about, visit the SmartStart web tool and schedule your session. After you book your time using the tool, you’ll get an appointment confirmation and will be provided some basic tips to make the call most efficient for you and the Care professional that will call you at the specified time.

The web tool allows you re-schedule your appointment if needed. Also, the tool will remind you of your appointment prior to the appointment time.
