A Bird’s Eye View: XTREME CODING Challenge

Imagine gliding 1,625 feet above Rio de Janeiro. Above, the limitless sky. Below, the blue ocean and the verdant capital city. In this short, six-minute flight, you’d think you wouldn’t have time to do anything except marvel at the incredible view.

You’d be wrong. Watch developer Jackson Feijo as he paraglides through the air and ports his Android app to the Nokia Store with minutes to spare.

His experience is part of the Nokia XTREME CODING Challenge, a series of events that will be held around the world to show just how simple and easy it is to publish Android apps to the Nokia Store for the Nokia X family of smartphones.

Equipped with a custom-built laptop harness, computer and 3G dongle, Jackson started porting his app within seconds of launching himself from a mountain in the Tijuca Forest, a hand-planted rainforest within Rio’s city limits.

Four Easy Steps
He ported his app to the Nokia Store in four quick steps:

1. He went here to analyze his app’s compatibility with Nokia X. Seventy-five percent of Android apps work on Nokia X.

2. After confirming that his app was compatible, Jackson went to Nokia Publish and logged into his Nokia account.

3. Next, Jackson entered all the metadata off his app (description, category, uploaded the apk files).

4. Once that was done, he clicked “submit.”

And that was it — four steps that took fewer than six minutes, and his app was on its way to the Nokia Store. Now, a whole new audience will find and use Jackson’s app.

If you’re an Android developer, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity, especially in light of the recent launch of the Nokia X2, the next generation of the Nokia X family. The developers have access to one of the largest operator billing networks in the world and developer programs such as the newly expanded DVLUP program, are now available in more than 190 countries.

Nokia X2 features include a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, a 4.3-inch ClearBlack display, a 5MP camera with flash and a front-facing camera, as well as more personalization options than you can shake a stick at.

We think Jackson’s experience porting his app while soaring above Rio is pretty darn cool. What do you guys think?
