The Big Debate: Calling vs messaging

Another day another Big Debate on Nokia Connects. Now, I’m a massive fan of text, words and literature, so when it comes to talking I’m at a bit of a loss.

This is why I always prefer to send a message or write an email rather than picking up the phone. If somebody said to me I could only have either written text messaging or calls for the rest of my life… I’d definitely go for messaging.

The Big Debate: Calling vs messaging

I bet some of you reading must completely disagree because you think a 5 minute call can easily replace the back and forth of about 100 messages to solve a simple solution. True, but I’d still chose text because I like the written word, and love using emoticons! :>

It does go further than solving simple solutions and avoiding masses of messages though, you are right. Emergencies and conference calls are also situations where calling would be essential. If you regularly take part in lots of these sessions on the go calling would be a must. For me though I’d be in an office or use a land line so no need!

Instant messaging is a cool thing too. Being able to keep up with somebody in real time on a busy train for example, without talking for 120 minutes annoying all the other passengers is a great bonus to me.

Enough about me though, these are just my arguments. What are yours, do you prefer calling, if so, why? Let me know in the comments section or reach out on Twitter.
