Can a Bamboo Bike Revolutionize World Transit?

The folks at Bamboo Bike Shop want to change the world, one piece of bamboo at a time. The Camden, Maine based startup runs a workshop that teaches the people of Ghana how to build their own bikes out of the readily available material around them, which just so happens to be bamboo. With a focus on low-cost and sustainability, the bike has also become a big hit among DIY’ers in the U.S. who are looking for ways to reduce their own ecological footprint. CEO Marty Odlin says, “I think the DIY bike thing is a part of a bigger cultural undercurrent, which is a reaction against this over-consumerist thing that’s going on right now.” What do you think? Can a bamboo bike really change the world? Check out the video and decide for yourself.
