Want to Talk it Out? This Startup Puts Group Therapy Online for $9.99

Support communities have existed on the Internet for years, and recently, therapists have been taking their practice online to help their patients. A new startup called Talktala combines the best of both these worlds by offering group therapy moderated by a licensed therapist. The target is not those with more serious mental disorders but those with serious challenges in their lives, like losing a significant other, or difficulty in marriage. Co-founder Oren Frank says of his effort “[Current online therapy sites] only address people who know what they have and are diagnosed. They don’t approach all those people who say, ‘I don’t know if I need therapy, but I could certainly talk to someone.’” The site is still in beta, but there are currently fifty approved therapists who charge an average rate of $9.99 per session. What do you think? Would you feel comfortable participating in group online therapy? Let us know your thoughts below.
