Infinite Flight

Flying an aeroplane is one of those dream jobs. Unfortunately, not all of us have the skills (or the stomach) to actually go ahead and earn our flying license. Fortunately, there’s a bunch of flight sim games on your Nokia Lumia that’ll see you soaring through the clouds. Here’s three of the best.

Infinite Flight £3.99 or $4.99

As far as flight sims go, this is probably the most realistic. If you’re unfamiliar with flying simulators, we’d suggest you take the tutorial first and opt for the flying lesson offered at the beginning of this game.

Once you’ve climbed into your Cessna 172 SP, you’re given a few short demonstrations on how to control the plane. Then it’s your turn. The controls themselves are simple. Tilt your phone backwards as if it were a control stick and the nose of the plane will start to rise. Push it downwards and you’ll plummet rather quickly to the ground. Tilting left and right steer the plane in those directions, too.

There’s no rushing in this game, it’s all about skill and trying to control your aeroplane without crashing or stalling. The onscreen HUD tells you everything you need to know in regards to altitude, airspeed and vertical speed.

Once you think you’re ready for a proper mission, leave the tutorial and start the game where you’ll be able to control a large selection of aircraft (including the Space Shuttle) in different scenarios.

Extreme Flight Premium £0.79 or $0.99

Extreme Flight

If you’re looking for a flying game that’s not as realistic as the one mentioned above and easier to learn, then download Extreme Flight Premium. It’s not a flight sim, per se, but this game does put you in control of an aeroplane.

The aim of this game is to steer your plane through hoops at an airshow. Some of the hoops you’ll need to fly though in one direction, the others will require you to flip the plane upside down in a loop-the-loop to spectacular.

Controlling the plane is easy. Using the up and down buttons on the screen move the plane in those directions, and the boost button on the left pushes you forward in a cloud of red smoke.

With over 40 levels, and many planes to choose from, you’ll find yourself trying “just one more time” to get the perfect score.

Rise of Glory £2.29 or $2.99

A pilot’s-eye view and loop-the-loops are all well and good, but it’s not much fun if you can’t shoot anything down, right? Rise of Glory puts you in the flying seat of some of the greatest aeroplanes from the First World War.

Take charge of your airborne vehicle and be sure to be on the look-out for any unwelcome combatants. Steer your plane using tilt-controls – by tilting your phone left, right, up or down – and as an enemy comes into view, shower them with the full arsenal at your disposal until, BOOM, all that’s left if a cloud of smoke and flames.

Congratulations. You’ve saved the day, soldier.

These flying games (and many more) are available for the Nokia Lumia 610, Nokia Lumia 710, Nokia Lumia 800, and the Nokia Lumia 900. Grab them today.
